Disappointed...
I’m in Riverhead. I only burp a lot, seems to be when I’m full or just about. I’ve been doing a lot of walking. The weight is not coming off as fast as I’d like since I started soft foods but overall I’ve done pretty well. I just have to be patient.

Disappointed...
I had my surgery on 3/2, I too have not seen my doctor in person for a follow up appointment but I did speak to my doctor over the phone with a concern and a video chat with my nutritionist. I live on Long Island so I’m right there with you in a hot spot. How are you doing since the surgery?

Going back to work tomorrow and I’m scared
I feel your pain.....I too am an essential worker. I return to work tomorrow as well after having surgery on 3/2. Normally I'd be glad to return to work, but I work on the trains on the largest commuter rail in NY bringing essential people into work and with all this crazy stuff going on I understand your apprehensiveness. My plan is to remove my uniform and shoes outside of the house and shower immediately as soon as I get home. Be careful and take all the possible precautions you can!

Regret
Hang in there, you’ll get through this. They’ll get you hydrated and you’ll be home before you know it. Have you spoken to your surgeon?

Disappointed...
I did use it while i was in the hospital however I forgot to pack it when I came home but I have been walking outside when the weather is good to build up my endurance. I start my soft food diet today and I'm thankful to finally be graduating! I would think that should help me to build more strength as well. I think the best thing we can do to fight this virus is to pray, be well rested, hydrated, and eat nutritiously. Thank you for the concern. You had your surgery a few days before me, how are you doing with your recovery?

Disappointed...
I think they are just trying to be safe, which I know is disappointing. I had my surgery on 3/2 and even my surgeon doesn't want me coming in for a post-op appointment, that will be done by video chat. I am doing well but I've been home. I will return to work next week due to being an essential employee.

I get it and totally understandable, congratulations on your son's future nuptials! Where in New York are you? I'm on Long Island.

I'm so sorry. I wish people would take this social distancing seriously and give it a chance to work so we can get this damn virus under control.

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!
It's great to hear you're having no issues! I had my surgery on 3/1, I get to start soft foods on Wednesday 3/25 personally I'm excited because I am also very tired of this liquid diet. I really need to have a little variety at this point. The only thing I can think of to ease your mind would be to make the pureed food with more liquid until you're more comfortable that you can handle it. Or call your nutritionist and let them know your concerns, I'm sure they will have some suggestions for you. Have a great day! ?

When is your surgery scheduled for?
-
Liquid phase post op - protein
Contact the doctor's office and speak to the nutritionist they should have examples for you. My instructions on a full liquid diet immediately after surgery were to work up to 60-80 grams of protein and work up to minimum of 64oz of fluid.

The approved liquids for me are water, low salt clear broth, low salt creamy soups, apple or white grape juice 50% juice mixed with 50% water, unsweetened nut milks, non fat milk, low salt tomato soup, sugar free kool aid, etc. All these are considered fluids and count towards the 64oz fluid intake.

Those instructions are for the first 3 weeks after surgery.

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!
My instructions from my doctor were 2 oz of protein drink on the hour every hour and 2 oz of an approved liquid every 15 minutes after the top of the hour. That way you can get it all in.

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!
Hi gcampbell29, I had gastric sleeve on March 2, so I'm a couple of days ahead of you.....I've been on full liquids since the surgery and it will last for 3 weeks, after my post op appointment I should go to soft foods. Tired and lack of energy is normal while your body is adjusting. You should start feeling better very soon, have you been up walking? If you can walk outside that would be even better especially if you have nice weather. I burp if I drink too quickly. I too miss chewing and its definitely more difficult when others are eating around you with all the good aromas, but we're on the upside of the surgery! Keep at it, you're doing fine!

Yes they are somewhat achy, I can sleep on my left side but my right side.....NOOOOOO way, at least not yet. Right now the spots are more itchy than anything and I don't have a post-op appointment until 3 weeks after surgery. Coughing and sneezing hurt like hell even with a pillow on my tummy to support it. I walk everyday to help heal faster.

I had my surgery on 3/2, the tiredness will pass shortly, however I'm not sure what you mean by the swallowing? It did take me a couple of days to work up to the 2oz of fluids every 15 mins though. I had to start out with 1oz the first day, 1 1/2 the 2nd day and the 2oz on the third day.

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!
Had my surgery on the Monday 3/2, came home the next day. Tummy is very sore, to be expected. However I can’t get all the liquids down, had to cut the dosage in half but still feels very full. Anyone else having these issues?
