August 2020 Surgery Date
Hi @MarigoldSky That's great you are already down 16 lbs. I don't have an official date yet either, so no worries. My 2nd weigh in isn't for 2 weeks, but I know I'm not down that much. I'm thinking maybe 5, if that.

Anyone decide WLS was for them very quickly?
I decided in a day too and the following day I did the seminar online. Unfortunately, I can't get into the surgeon as quickly.

August 2020 Surgery Date
@sarahredwood Which surgery are you having done? Have you had any lucky with losing weight with the nutritionist? I don't go back for my 2nd weigh in until the 19th, but I think I must have lost a little as my jeans aren't as tight. How many weigh in's do you have to do? I have to do 6. I hate calling it a weigh in, to me it sounds like a herd of cattle. haha.

Protein powder for water!
I acutally use premier protein. Typically I mix the powder in Milk or Fairlife Milk as I can't stand it with water. I'll use the premade shakes if I an on the go or have to, but after a few the taste starts to bother me.

Initial Consult Update
@mello1 It may be because Insurance is covering mine. Several other people I know that have had weight loss surgery have done it the same way I am. As long as the insurance company is paying and I have to pay very very little, I don't mind.

3 weeks in!
I have been told the faster you lose weight the more saggy skin you can have. So this might be a good thing and you have much if any sagging.

Time off
My job is relatively sedentary and I have the option to work from home. I was thinking of taking a week to a week and a half off, and then working from home for another 2 weeks or so. My plan is to start working from home as soon as 8 am able, even if it is only half days. I have no back up, other than my supervisor and my work can't sit while I am out. He is happy with thos compromise and I know won't push me to come back before I am ready. But he also knows I love my job and will be back as soon as I can.

Saggy skin
I'm fairly young, 42 next month. My biggest concern is my arms. I live in Florida, love to wear tank tops, and have a beautiful upper arm tattoo that runs from my shoulder to my elbow (not a sleeve as it doesn't wrap around my arm). I'm already starting to save for the surgery if I need it.

Initial Consult Update
My weigh in are at my primary doc which is in a different practice that the surgeon. My primary did mention that based on my labs, additional things might be required, but since I am fairly healthy, she didn't think so. I am trying to get my initial consult with the surgeon moved up as April is so far away.

Bariatric and Alcoholism....
Congratulations on acknowledging that you have a problem with alcohol and resize something is wrong. Are you interested in 12 steps? If not can you meet with your doctor? My husband and I stopped drinking a little over a year ago. It was very rough for him. I was never a big drinker and never drank beer, so me quitting in support of him was right to do. Do you have sober friends? We found out that hanging out with other sober peep and having fun while sober, retrained our brains so to speak to start to realize that we can have fun without alcohol. If you need to talk, PM me.

Will I be approved for surgery?
I have to get see a psychologist, but my Primary Doc told me they are looking for unmedicated psychological issue, not feeling of depression from being overweight, though they can help with that. She said "you aren't batshit crazy so don't worry about it." I'm sure you will be ok. We all have negative feelings about our weight. Isn't that partly why we are doing this?

Saggy skin
Is there anything I can start doing now to help prevent saggy skin? My surgery should be in August. Thanks!

Initial Consult Update
@Uomograsso I'll be sure to ask when I see my surgeon. Thanks!

Initial Consult Update
I see my primary in March for my 2nd weigh in. That is an easy appointment to get so I won't miss any with my Primary. Plus she is giving me my migraine shot each month, so the weigh in visit kills 2 birds with one stone. My insurance is Aetna.

I was approved for surgery. Good vitamins and protein shakes?
Do you mix your premier protein shake with milk or water?

Initial Consult Update
Well I got my initial consultation with the surgeon set up but it isn't until April 2nd!!!! Has anyone else had to wait that long? In addition, my insurance requires 6 weight check visits with my primary doc 1 nutritional consultation Psychological evaluation At least my primary doc knows the process and said my visit on 2/19 will count as the 1st weigh in. Based on what I have seen, this is pretty standard. My letter from the surgeon (and my calculations) put the surgery cost at $520, so I guess I can't complain about the length of time. So it is looking like I will have surgery sometime in August or September. Just in time to not be able to enjoy my husband's favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.

What's something you wish you had known before losing all the weight?
The compression gathers help with the loose skin afterwards? Is there a specific reason why this helps? I will have to look into getting some.
