  1. hey congrats, hope all went well. My op was cancelled and I am so sad. There is no news re rescheduling so i might be waiting ages. Hope you are on the road to recovery.
  2. Hi all, looks like my surgery may not go ahead due to the coronovirus and limited travel in Europe. I am really devastated because I have been so anxious, took 3 years to take the plunge and book the surgery and flights to have it almost cancelled.

    March VSG day four

Hey Mooki, thanks for the reply. The reason I am having the op is to take back control of my eating, and to stop food having this huge hold on my life. That is the main outcome I want so to hear that is what is happening is great news. As for the merrygoround of thinking its amazing and its not going to work I can really relate to this. The mind is a powerful tool and I do think for me the mental struggle will be as hard as the physical challenge. I have found that trying to visualise the positives helps with the panic moments, so trying to visualise myself out of theatre and walking around, being slimmer in the summer clothes, enjoying holidays without the dread of weight gain etc etc. I hope each day is getting easier for you.

    Gastric sleeve for BMI 30

My BMI is also 31.4 and I am having the sleeve in a few weeks. My BMI has been higher in the past and my weight continues to go and up and down, it has never consistently stayed down. I am having the op as I am now borderline diabetic, suffering with joint pains and I do not want to spend the rest of my life fighting a losing battle. I am paying cash and am hoping this tool will give me the support I need to control my weight.

    March VSG day four

Hi Mooki, This thread has been really useful for me, I have my op in 17 days and I am really terrified. Your initial post was so informative and has addressed a lot of my concerns, so thank you for that!. Also one of my big fears was having uncontrolled hunger in the early stages so it’s good to know that having a few spoonfulls of yoghurt satiated the hunger and enables you to carry on with your journey. It is also useful to know what to expect and to see that you are able to hydrate and walk at such an early stage. Thank you for sharing your journey. It’s interesting that every surgeon has a different post op pathway. My instructions are 2 weeks of clear liquids, 2 weeks of all liquids (including soups and yoghurt etc) and then purees from week 4-6. Normal textured food will start at week 7. It seems like a long time so I am hoping the initial 6 weeks go fast.

    Preop

my date is 27th March and I am absolutely terrified and not sleeping. My head flits from wanting to cancel to wanting to get it done. I feel sad that it has come to this but I know if I don't have the op then I have to accept a lifetime of being overweight and unhappy, and my weight continuing to rise. what has helped me is trying to visualise a positive outcome, seeing myself coming home from surgery with no complications and the thought of being healthy and slim in the summer.
  7. I have just booked for 27th March, absolutely terrified now! I have been reading up for a couple of years but suddenly feel totally overwhelmed and unprepared. Worried about complications post sleeve, heartburn, leaks and not being healthy for my kids. I have 50lb to lose (it used to be more but I have been healthy eating the last few years), just need a more permanent tool to help me stay consistent. I am UK based but travelling to Turkey for surgery. Its all I think about and I go from wanting it doing asap to wanting to cancel!

    MAY 19th is my date

Hi there, my op is 25th May. to be honest I wish it was next week! I am getting more and more anxious, and the buildup is full of nerves. One minute excitement then fear. Also, I have gained 7lb in the last few months which I am trying to control. It is nerve wracking.
  9. Thanks! my hubby was advising me to postpone the op until after the holiday but that takes me to Aug and I am already a bag of nerves waiting for May. I just hope that by week 7 I am able to eat and drink reasonably well with no nausea. We are going all inclusive so I am planning on having lots of protein (fingers crossed my new belly likes chicken and meat) and soups. I think there will be lots of options and I am hoping that this will be the first holiday I actually feel good about myself on. Usually I dread holidays and all the summer wear. Another reason for me not to delay wls, hopefully by the time I go in week 7 I will have shed some weight and be more focused on how I feel rather than the food etc!
  10. hi there, I am having a sleeve at the end of May and due to travel on a 2 week holiday in the beginning of August. The holiday has been booked for some time, do you think I will be ok going on holiday 7 weeks after my wls? I suppose I am worried that there may be complications, or that I will still be struggling to drink or eat anything. I am not bothered about the all inclusive food (looking forward to not gaining for once) but I am more concerned that I might be at the airport struggling to get liquids down or keep food down at this stage. Any advice? anyone been on holiday so soon after wls?

I have heard so many people sleevers say they lost their enjoyment of food. I am really worried about this as I have had a traumatic childhood and food has been a real constant source of comfort for me. I hope I can continue to have a good relationship with food, I guess I will have to end how i see food as comfort and find comfort in other things and treat food as fuel only.

Hi Nay and Batfink (and everyone else from the UK), I am having the sleeve in turkey in May. Absolutely terrified, but looking forward to a new me. Has anyone here been to Turkey? I am less worried about going abroad than I am of complications post sleeve. I am also worried about getting my protein in after as I love carbs and don't eat a lot of meat. Would love to share experiences, fears, worries as I have no one in RL to talk to about this whole thing.
