Post-Op Food Consumption/'Stuck' feeling
I’ll be on the other side in a week but my doctor suggests that you eat what you can within 30 minutes & be done. That keeps potential grazing in check. Consider adding unflavored protein to what you’re eating & he also explains that some people can’t tolerate meat after surgery. Try some diff ways to prepare to maybe keep juicy .... Sous vide? Just a suggestion

GAS After surgery
Hey Cassie.... how long do you think you endured the gas pains? How is everything going for you? I am having RNY on June 18th. It’s been 30 years since I was burped like a baby and I’m ready! Lol

June 2019!!! Surgery Siblings!!!
Hey... you’re the second person I’ve found with June 18th... me too for RNY. I’m 30, current weight is 248 & 5’1. HW: 268. I am pre-diabetic & have HBP. My doctors have all told me other than weight, I am actually really healthy & this is the best decision I couldn’t made at my age. I only need 6 days of a protein diet (shakes & clear liquids). We have to keep in touch for support! I’m really excited & READY!

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
Hi guys, I officially started this journey on March 12, 2019 & as of yesterday, I am scheduled for RNY on June 18th. Super excited as I considered it for almost 2 years & no matter how much I tried to lose weight on my own, I was never really successful. With this tool, I feel like I can get back healthy & strong for the first time in a LONG time. I’m only 30 & my doctor put the fear of God in me when I was put on HBP meds at this age & told me I was pre-diabetic. I cried and called my mom because I saw the effects of these things on my parents and grandparents. Anywho, I’m excited, super anxious & nervous!

GAS After surgery
I haven’t had my surgery yet but I’ve read a lot about this including vloggers experiences on YouTube. Walking & having someone burp you like a baby seems to be the best remedies.

Unsupportive Caregiver
I am still pre-op but I can sort of relate. My mother & I live in the same house & we’ve been having it out ever since I told her I wanted to take this journey. I had plans on telling her at the absolute last min but it was recommended to meet w/ your surgeon for the first time with the person who would be around w you immediately following surgery. Well she sang a diff tune during the appt when the surgeon kind of “put her in her place” abt the crazy notions she had abt other ppl who’s journey’s that have been unsuccessful & the dangers. She’s not healthy AT ALL. Breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, constant joint pains.... so I know better than to really take in everything she says ??♀️ but she’s my mother & I know, if needed, she would kill for me but in this situation, I’m looking forward to dealing w/ this on my own. She’s not going to be of any help AT ALL. I had a revelation a couple weeks ago because the first argument we had about the way she “supports” me, I cried & realized this is why they make you have psych evals. They say you may face depression & changing relationships & that sh*t is hard. It was a sadness I hadn’t felt in a long time & I thought she would be happy I’m not falling into another generational curse. I’m preparing myself as much as possible to focus on what I need bc I also know that stress has adverse reactions on health & weight loss as well so I can’t worry about the dependence of anyone else anymore. Newly in a relationship & my boyfriend even told me to come stay w/ him for 2 weeks but I don’t wanna put that on him. Anyway, be strong! You have such a community here & I know we are all rooting for each other. Months/years from now, you’ll realize how much stronger you are for having to deal w/ family the way you have. You’ll be happy that you’re healthy & don’t have to be a slave for the junk that got us in these bad spots to begin with. YOU’VE GOT THIS!

When to ask for surgery date
This might be a silly question but my doctor told me to lose 5% of my body weight before surgery. Do I need to lose this before the pre-op diet begins? Is this different for everyone?

Is there any way to waive the 6 month pre op supervised diet requirements with BCBS? Any Dr recommendations in MI that will?
I have BCN (BCBS) of MI and read through paperwork that if your BMI is greater than or equal to 50, the 6 month waiting period is waived... or with the self pay option.

Blue Cross Complete of Michigan
Thank you so much! I have BCN MI & wouldn’t have thought to look into this deeper regarding insurance but glad I did. Because my BMI is so high, apparently I don’t have the 6 month waiting period. I’m VERY early in this process. Received approval for consultation (4.5 hour class at Henry Ford) on 3/12 & super excited to get this going.
