sdbari19 reacted to Marc M. in April 2019 Surgeries!OK, let's hear from anyone else who is a April 4 surgery! Here is my report:
I am at BariatricPal Hospital MX in Tijuana. Surgery appears to have gone well - I only have 4 holes in my belly and not 5 like I expected. Coming out of anesthesia was hard, but it always has been for me in prior surgeries, including my bilateral knee surgeries a couple of years ago.
One thing I will tell you is they will warn you about the gas pain and bloating, but it is hard to believe until you experience it. It isn't really pain, but more like a hard uncomfortable feeling. But I have had a barium enema before and the pain wasn't any worse than that.
My biggest problem was back pain and apparently hypertension (because they keep wanting to treat it). They do a leak test again in the AM, so nothing is going down tonight, so taking ibuprofen sublingually really sucks. But I soldiered through it and got to the other side. I can sleep on my right side now, but not my left. The last bit of discomfort is in my left upper abdomen around one of the holes. Not pain, just discomfort.
Took my first walkabout on the floor and sat out in the little foyer here at the hospital. No problems with the walkabout and I am generally feeling pretty OK. If I am felling better tomorrow, all is going to be great, I feel!

sdbari19 reacted to CajunSam in April 2019 Surgeries!Well, as of today I am official POST OP!
I had a 10 day liquid diet and lost 12 lbs. Not the best it could have been but not bad. I have impressed about how they don’t wait around waist if time here. I get like I arrived here and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. I got up a little earlier and walked around. I honestly feel fine. A little pain and discomfort at the drain site and mid abdomen but other wise, fine.
I haven’t had anything to “eat” in 2 days but I can tell you now I don’t even care. I have no appetite at all. I’m tired after all the traveling and the surgery of course.
Honestly the worst part of the whole surgery process was right after surgery while I was in recovery. The nausea and falling in and out of sleep coupled with the normal pain sucked but again...manageable. I am so ready to get home and get my new life started.

sdbari19 reacted to crigney21 in April 2019 Surgeries!Second day home after surgery. It feels so good to shower and sleep in my own bed. My energy is better every day and moving is pretty easy. So far so good. -
sdbari19 reacted to beautifuldaymonster in April 2019 Surgeries!Justmetj is right, it seems slow to you right now. It was for all of us. But 2-4 days before your surgery you probably will feel like things are suddenly moving too fast. You'll have second thoughts and want to cancel the surgery (but you won't), you'll feel a little rushed and scared. It'll pass. Then you'll be in pre-op in the hospital and it all goes REALLY fast. Then the anesthetist will talk with you and you'll go to sleep.
And then seemingly a few minutes later, but really hours, you'll wake up and start healing with all of us. Enjoy your time before surgery! You can still get around independently, drive, and do things. In healing, that ends...

sdbari19 reacted to Marc M. in April 2019 Surgeries!I’m about to board the plane for San Diego for my surgery tomorrow at BariatricPal MX with Dr. Jalil Ilian. Surprisingly not at all hungry on clear liquids.

sdbari19 reacted to Marc M. in April 2019 Surgeries! And thoughts to all those having surgery today. I am flying out to San Diego this afternoon for surgery tomorrow.
On the plus side, this morning my weight sans clothing was 329.6. That is the first time it has been below 330 in at least two years, maybe longer.
Regarding a clear liquid diet today, after 10 days of a full liquid diet, I am pretty much up for anything. Now if I can only get my 15-year-old to get her behind in motion.

sdbari19 reacted to beautifuldaymonster in April 2019 Surgeries!Home and in my own bed. Pain is pretty much minimal, almost gone. I can't imagine eating anything. Sipping is a little challenging because all I want to do is sleep! Walking and bending are easy though.

sdbari19 reacted to CajunSam in April 2019 Surgeries!Sorry guys, I am the OP and I tried deleting the gofund me comment but it wouldn’t let me do so. I don’t think this is the appropriate place for that.
That aside, I leave tomorrow for a Thursday surgery and I am so excited to get my new life started!! -
sdbari19 reacted to beautifuldaymonster in April 2019 Surgeries!Weak and resting. Soooper pain and nausea. Do not regret a thing. More later when stronger and fully awake.

sdbari19 reacted to TheFlinstones in April 2019 Surgeries!I hope everyone is doing really well. I had a small hiccup in my pre-op diet on the weekend. But back on track. My weight has gone down a little.
It’s 8 sleeps till I’m on my way to hospital and surgery day. I just want it to be here already. I feel like I’ve been in a holding pattern.
Anyway I have things to keep me busy till then.
After all my years of dieting and to-yo weight. Part of me is ambivalent about that feeling of waiting till my weight has gone right down that I’ll be happy at the end. (I used to have a lot of attachment to ‘a certain weight making me happiest’. I know that’s not the case since I reached it quite a few times and there was still life to deal with and then I was afraid of staying there, keeping my weight.
So a part of me is slightly excited to be getting rid of this weight to have my life back so that my knees, back don’t hurt. I can actually start to go walking and not be embarrassed and not be in pain and more importantly I need to get fitter.
I think part of me is a little scared and also a bit teary I’m doing something for myself. It’s been a while since I’ve been kind to me/looking after myself. I’ve fallen down so many times in the last 4 years, yet still get back up. I’m a little worried about falling down and not picking myself up. I have isolated myself due to my weight and stopped seeing friends, going out. Feeling a bit daunted by all the change that is going to come and a teeny part of me scared that it won’t come. However I can only take one day at a time.
Clearly I’m reflecting on a lot today.
Anyone reading this, I am ok. Just feeling my feelings in a good way. Must be some grieving for what has happened. Finally reached the surface to start paddling and moving towards being more functional in all areas of life.
I’m wishing everyone in April all the very best. Be well, I hope anyone in recovery from surgery is doing really great - May it all go smoothly, if there is any pain or difficulties it will pass take deep breathes and think of the bigger picture. (Clearly notify a nurse or your Dr if you’re in pain - I’m just wanting to reassure that any tough bits we will get through it)
8 sleeps, hurry up already!
Much love & peace to all. -
sdbari19 reacted to ThinT in April 2019 Surgeries!Doing very well without the nausea. But I’m sure the pain meds are helping a lot. Thankfully I’m able to take sips of water. -
sdbari19 reacted to ThinT in April 2019 Surgeries!Finished my surgery this morning! Feeling sore and had nausea this morning , which is gone now. They let me sleep most of the day , but will be walking soon. -

sdbari19 reacted to beautifuldaymonster in April 2019 Surgeries!Okay wow this is it. I am about to call my hospital ride. I have to be at the hospital an hour from now. I just took "before" photos of myself, front, sides and back. I see a tired girl. I see a girl too young and too happy to look this tired. I see her weighted down by anger, sadness, childhood s****l abuse, insecurity, loneliness and such. I see so much weight put on that wasn't my fault but my stomach malfunctioning after too much ghrelin, too much packing in food, too much stuffing down emotions with different foods.
I am so grateful to my surgical team and to God for giving me this upcoming second chance. I can see from bone structure and from my memories and old photos what I used to look like, who I used to be. That girl is trying to break out of a prison made of food and fat. I can see her in these photos. I feel emotional right now.
I am now logging off to go to the hospital. I will try to say hi again when the procedure is over. So grateful. Not a fear or regret in the world. Best wishes to all the April Babies here today. It is time.
