    I’m a nurse.
People in the hospital throw up sometimes after taking their pills but the pills do not come up. I cannot offer you a scientific explanation. I can only tell you this is not abnormal in my experience.

Think about this.. in all aspects of life.. the only people you see say something for the most part, are those that have issues. Whether it be with surgery, restaurant experiences, shopping online issues.. customer service issues, any issues.. 10 bad to 1 good as the good have no reason to complain, they rarely will say anything.. There is a lot of good out there. This is your journey, not those of others. I saw a post on fb the other day where somebody said.. i have had no issues, am i the only one.. It was nice to see over 100 comments of the same thing.
I for one have had no issues, yes i had the sleeve, but still no issues. No pain issues since awakening in the hospital, no food issues (besides the occasional eating too fast). no water intake issues.. so there is good out there.. Stop reading what everybody else is going through and focus on what you can do for you. There is so much information on the boards of what happens to others, but that is others, and doesn't necessarily mean you. What you can do with the information is be prepared in case something does happen to you and you will be armed with how to tolerate or handle it which will then make your transition a lot easier.

    Good Luck and feel better!

This is the problem with seeking validation from strangers to decide if you are making the right decision for your health. If you had doubts about following through with surgery you should have discussed with your surgical team or if you were not mentally prepared then it was not the right time for you to follow through with it.
Of your only negative side effect so far from your surgery is fear regarding what has happened to others, stop reading about it. You don’t know these people. You don’t know what their diets were. You don’t know if they are compliant with their vitamin regimen or not. You do not know if they are regularly following up with the appropriate medical providers, or if they waited until there was a problem to see someone.
Stop reading the negative crap and put yourself in a positive frame of mind.
No one is going to do a complicated reversal procedure unless you are deathly ill, and regret is not a life threatening emergency. You are an adult that made a decision, now pull yourself up and remember why you wanted this.
I hope you find the inner peace you need to enjoy your journey with no regrets, truly.

Maybe that's why I have unreasonable expectations for surgery. Because I have dieted... a lot... and always was somewhat successful... it just wasn't sustainable long-term. That's also why I didn't have much support for this surgery, because my friends and family had seen me lose a large amount of weight on my own.

To be honest, now that I'm actually losing weight, I'm just thrilled to actually be losing weight, I'll take whatever my body gives me. I didn't realise this until now but because every diet has failed me, including the lapband, a part of me didn't believe the bypass would work either. So I never dared to dream of actually making it to a goal weight. I'm only now daring to let myself think it might be possible.

There are two quotes love in regards to this weight loss journey
"Comparison is thief of joy," and "Men have become the tools of their tools."
This is "your" journey and someone else is on "their" journey... You are not on the same race track, even though you are running the same type of race. Everything about your race and everything about their race is completely different. Don't lose sight of your own journey, race, goals, etc... by comparing yourself to the differences of others.
Where you are today, is not where you will be tomorrow. Don't let someone else's today steal your hope for tomorrow.

Your body needs to HEAL. The last thing it needs now is the trauma of another surgery. The risks of that would be incredibly high.
In the meantime I would be asking if there was a psychologist that you could be referred to. Speaking to a professional experienced in these matters could be a tremendous help

    I started this journey @ 470lbs. I'm 8 1/2 weeks post op and today I weighed in at 399lbs!

This word is for all the pre-op/recent surgery folks. Stick with it...Follow the steps. It's more than worth it.
Good luck and God bless us all on this journey!

My doc fixed the same hernia in me, and I woke up with the most excruciating back pain from it. One of the resident docs said the hernia repair wasn’t what was causing my pain, but couldn’t give me a better answer as to what it was, and it was exactly in the middle of my back where my diaphragm runs.

Mine took about three days to start easing up too. Walking def helps, I was asking to go for a walk about every hour from as soon as I was allowed to. Now I’m home three days, and not walking anywhere near as much (I live in Minnesota, it’s pretty brisk outside). My friend is taking me out in an hour or so, so I can get some walking done indoors ?

My pain is in center of my chest and back. Same thing as you, I’m almost certain it’s the hernia repair.

Khrymson reacted to mousecat88 in Eating at a bar... a new experience.
So, I went out last Saturday with a friend to a local bar. No, not to drink (although he did). I had been craving a chicken wing and just wanted one wing. Few things to preface this: First off, I *should* still be on puree due to my ulcer and secondly, DO NOT GET OLD BAY ON A WING IF YOU HAVE AN ULCER. Bad times were had. I confessed to my surgeon Tuesday and he said it was fine... but no spice! Derrrr. Anyways, me being a bad patient aside....
Eating out is so weird! I order 6 wings and a cheese plate. I had the one wing and two cheese cubes and I was stuffed. My friend ate 4 stuffed mushrooms, 12 wings, cheese cubes, and some other stuff. The bartender asked me about 6 times if I wanted a drink, even water, but I kept saying no because I didn't want to risk drinking while eating. Well, then old bay irritated my throat a bit and I wished I had a little sip to wash the spice down. I couldn't stop coughing because the back of my throat got itchy. So, lesson learned... get water... just in case you start choking. lmao.
When I was "done" my solo wing, I asked for boxes. The bartender remarked that he was "wondering how I would eat all that food". In my head I was like "dude... before surgery I would have crushed all of this, had an entree, a dessert, and been about 4 vodka sodas deep soooooo." I imagine eating out is going to be quite a unique experience from now on. My friend got all my leftovers because it would have all gone bad before I could even have made a dent.
    Boxes please!

Khrymson reacted to sideeye in Fat shaming ?? Post op over 4 yrs
Being overweight sucked. It sucked that people stared at me, that I got an endorphin kick off of eating, that planes have middle seats, that the clothes I wore were the best I could assemble out of bad options. It sucked that social events were based around calorie-laden moments. It sucked that I had to spend years trying diets and counseling and have humiliating conversations with HR to get this op covered, then do a complicated insurance switcheroo when they said no, and then scrape up the money to cover the surgery. It sucked that even when I did lose weight before, I’d regain it when people’s reaction to me (shocked praise, aggressive flirting, extensive recitations of all the hideous health complaints I’d now avoid) actually made me REGAIN just so they’d STOP TALKING.
So no, I don’t judge. I feel sad that the other person is likely still trapped in some part of that depressive cycle, whether they’re actively looking to lose or not. And then I treat them exactly as I would absolutely anyone else.
My one rule with this surgery is that if a thin person asks me how I lost weight, I generally don’t spill the beans because they’re usually looking for random diet tips or are being nosy. But if a fat person asks, I tell them honestly. The last thing I want to do is imply that I lost this weight through diet and exercise alone, and I want them to be able to ask me anything they want to know.
