No doubt! It just amazes me how we discriminate against certain segments of society without even batting an eyelash.

Hey, thanks for the pep talks, guys. I don't know why I'm having so much self doubt right now. I just keep thinking that I will be a huge lap band failure or something and won't lose a thing. It's ridiculous. Of course I'll lose. It may not be as quickly or as much as I'd like, but I will lose weight. Without the band I would continue to gain and gain until I finally died from weight related health issues. So, um, yeah. I need to quit beating myself up here and just go for it.

OMG!!! That is absolutely horrendous. Why don't they charge extra for fussy babies then? They certainly encroach on my comfort. Or how about really tall men who sit behind me and press their knees against the back of my seat? Or someone who hasn't showered recently? Or someone who wants to talk the entire time?

Yes, I'm sure PS will be part of my future. I already have a big stomach flap thingy that came after my first c-section and never went away. And the girls . . . .well, they were fine until 3 years ago or so and then they just started moving south. I can't imagine what they'll look like when I lose weight. Ummm, no so pretty. I would like to get down to the middle range of normal . . . I just don't have much confidence that I can do it. But then I see all of you and think that I shouldn't sell myself short. Well, I'm off to bed. I'm worn out today. It's really hot here and it just drains me.

that's a good idea. I mean exercising, not panicking. You must be close to your goal though, yes?

OH YAY!!! Okay, that sounds like a good plan. And if you're able to keep something down and take your meds, that seems like a very good sign. thanks for logging on and letting us know. Wow, 70 in 6 months is amazing. I am quite a bit older than you though . . and not so good at working out. I really need to make a commitment to it and just do it. Oh. I sound like a Nike ad.

you've done really well. I have about the same amount to lose as you and I just have no idea what to expect in terms of rate of loss. I would like to lose 40 lbs by the time of my daughter's wedding on December 20th, but then think that might be too optimistic. That's five months . . .

ARGH!! I have been away from the computer all day and just read Brandy's post. Brandy -sending lots of positivity your way, babe. Dee - where are you? Everything okay? Mal - I'll fix the phone list and send it again. Thanks for the update.

Green, that is a fantastic list. Thank you so much for posting it. Marcy-congrats on the bike ride!! That's fabulous! You must have been so proud of yourself. I know what you mean about exercise aversion. I'm really worried that I won't change my sluggish ways. It's something I'll really need to work on.

Well, you're like a third of the way to your goal, yes? That's amazing. When's the last time you lost 65 lbs in 6 months? I'm sure the fill will do the trick and you'll be on your merry losing way again.

Oh my. Well, you really have a handful to deal with. I'm don't know that I have such a great handle on this stuff . . . I certainly have my share of feeling completely overwhelmed and ill-prepared. It's one thing to know about this stuff academically and another to live with it everyday. I think your hypothesis about all the stuff being related is an interesting one . . . not a ton of empirical evidence to tie them together at this point, although the attention/depression/anxiety link is definitely showing up in the neuro literature. And schizophrenia involves, in part, the same part of the brain involved in executive attention. Everything in the brain is so interconnected that it's really tough to isolate a disorder to one specific area. Maybe someday we'll be able to do it, but not now. Barkley is adorable!! I"m glad he's feeling better. When we leave our dog, she doesn't speak to us for days. She turns her head away when we look at her and pretends that we don't exist. Then she'll finally break down and come and do the whining, yipping thing to let us know that she's mad at us. She even nips my husband's hands (gently, of course). Silly puppies. I'm not sure you want to be my mini-me. But that really cracked me up!

Oh no! Summer school? Bummer . . . I was on campus today and it was all I could do to be there for four hours. I have to be there all day tomorrow and I found it rather, um, depressing. And I love my job! I'm just really enjoying having some time off.

Oh, that's a good idea. Things shift around! Sidann, one of my students has a dog that is 1/2 bassett hound and 1/2 black lab. Same sort of thing . . . lab head, tail coloring, bassett body. It was really funny looking. Dogs and cats are interesting genetically. With humans, many traits are a blend of traits from both parents, so a tall parent and a short parent might end up with a medium height child. In animals, however, they have specific genes for very specific physical characteristics, so you get EITHER mom's legs or dad's legs, etc. There are even genes that code for spots of different colored hair, so a cat might have a spot of hair on its shoulder that is exactly like a spot on its mom. Dogs (not sure with cats) have about 60 times more genes than humans. Weird, huh? Well, that was your dorky science lesson for the day. Sorry.
