Reviving this thread in case there are others in the Pittsburgh area getting ready for surgery. I live north of Pgh, but work in Blawnox. I will be having my surgery at Butler with Dr. Gagne.

Good morning. If you have already had surgery, was there anything you did ahead of time (like during the 6 month weigh ins) to prepare yourself for the surgery? Or, is there something that you wish you had did that you think would have made things easier for you? I ask this because i am wondering, would it be good as I get closer to only have 1 meal per day and drink shakes the other 2 meals to make it easier for the 2 week pre-op liquid diet?

Hi there. My husband is a road warrior too, so I am familiar with the lifestyle and challenges you are facing. Do you get per diem or are you expensing only a certain amount? Do you always get a fridge in your room? If not, call ahead and tell them you need one for medicine. Do you rent a car once you are where you need to go? If so, stop at the store on your way to the hotel. How long are you at each job? My hubby can be places for about a month depending on whether it's an outage or something quick. A lot of hotels now have grills, so that's something to think about in you could cook a bunch of food and put it in the fridge. What about a small crockpot? My husband sometimes will buy a cheap one and leave it for the hotel. Good luck to you.

I asked my Dr. last night about this. He said the average time that his patients go back to work is 10 days.

Hi there. A newbie here. I am just getting started and have my first info session next week, but have a question. I am currently on my husbands insurance(Aetna). The plan does not have bariatric services. Since open enrollment is coming up, I am going to switch to my employers plan (Highmark BCBS DE) because they do have it. If I start seeing the Dr. and start that 6 month clock before I switch carriers, will they make me extend the 6 months? TIA Jen
