My surgery was on a Tuesday. I checked out of the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, by the time all the paperwork was done. I would have gone to work on Thursday, but was a little worried about adverse reactions (vomiting, mostly, but that never happened). So I spent all day Thursday driving around to run errands and then re-planting bushes and shrubs in my yard that afternoon. Went to work on Friday and had a great day. Sitting for long periods was uncomfortable, but it was fine, all in all. Except for my throat being a bit sore from the intubation, it was like the surgery never happened. So it all depends on your pain threshold, physical condition before the operation, how well you heal, and of course, the quality of your surgeon. You'll be surprised how great you feel afterward. For me, anyway, it was a piece of cake. Assume you'll be able to go. If you can't do it, you can always bail right before you're supposed to leave. But make the plans and prepare for the best case. You'll be fine...and you'll be feeling so good about your new life and body, you'll have a fabulous time.
