    May bypass

I am scheduled for sleeve revision to bypass May 2nd. Who else is having surgery and would like to support each other?

So hard to get serious about a pre-op diet. I really don't have one, except I am supposed to lose 5 pounds. Seriously going to have to stick to liquids before my pre-op appt. And wear my lightest weight clothes and no jewelry! tee hee

    Pre-Op Diet Adherence

The goal of a pre-op diet can be different. For some, it can be weight loss, as the Dr may be checking to see how serious someone is prior to surgery. For some, it really is to shrink the fat out of the liver to make it smaller, so their surgeon can move it easily and see better. As a patient, we want to make sure we are able to enjoy our favorite 'bad' foods, since we will forever be on better path for ourselves. Each of us will need to wrestle with what feels right to us.

Awesome! Mine is May 2nd. Yes, Easter is absolutely a last hurrah, but I am also planning a trip to Shogun. I guess it needs to be this weekend too, so I can start dieting before my pre-op weigh in. My Dr did not say I HAD to loose weight, but suggested a 5 - 7 pound weight loss. I will give it a good try. My pre-op is Apr 30.

    Pumping Stomach full of air?

Oh no! They didn't sell them anymore? Just when I'm about to need them! I'm sure the chewable will be just as good.
  6. My date is now firm! May 2nd!

    Pumping Stomach full of air?

I'm sorry April, I had multiple technical issues yesterday and could not reply. I found gas x strips, little green strips that melt on your tongue. That way you don't have to swallow or need liquid.

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

It's going to be tough for me to eat to live, since I have always lived to eat! You all are so right to think of these things. I'm so glad I have read your comments!

    Skin??

Wear your loose skin like a badge of honor! It's a reminder of what a success you all are! I have the middle 'apron', I think it's called. I've had it since pregnancy, so it's only going to get worse. Since the skin has been like that for years, surgery will be my only option after weight is lost. My dermatologist told me years ago to use Zeazorb, a powder, in the foot care aisle. It keeps me from having skin problems. I use it anywhere there is skin to skin contact.

    kicking sugar

So, is it going to be easier to kick sugar out of my life prior to surgery or after? I am leaning towards after, since i won't be eating, and only mu liquids and purees for quite some time. I think I would be just miserable if I attempted to go completely off at this point. I of course have reduced, but not 100%.

    May bypass

why do you have to bypass? Couldn't it be a hiatal hernia that can be repaired? I would ask that question before going through a process you don't really want.

    kicking sugar

thanks everyone. Of course not the answers I wanted to hear, but I guess I knew the correct answer in my head. It's great to get support from you all,

Don't be! You probably have thought long and hard about this. Don't second guess yourself. We are doing this to get healthier, live longer and look better!

    Just had surgery

I love the high protein chocolate slim fast drinks. 20grams of protein in 11 oz. 3 of those a day meets our protein guide, and counts towards liquids at first.

    pinto beans

I have read that beans are not good to eat after surgery. Anyone out there eat beans after their surgery? I had planned to make them ahead of time and freeze; some blended as puree, and some as is, for a soft food.

    A peppermint can help sometimes.

    May bypass

Yes, I can't wait to stop having terrible heartburn! Right now, I keep tums with me at all times. I did n't know about the hiatal hernia until my surgeon took a look during a scope procedure. I am glad it's something that can be fixed.

    pinto beans

thanks to all~ I will also have the gas-x strips that melt in your mouth on hand.
  21. I have stocked my freezer with homemade soups. I froze them at different stages. I kept some as broth, and blended some for puree, and then some as is. I used homemade chicken soup, and homemade stew. For puree soups, I also made a creamy tomato and a squash soup. I was going to make pinto beans and freeze at the different stages, but I've read that beans are not good to have after surgery.

    May bypass

I had my sleeve dome May 2013. I lost weight, but gained a bit back. I never lost much weight at all. After 5 years, I decided I am tired of being overweight! I also have a hiatal hernia to get repaired. The sleeve I did to reduce the amount of insulin I was using, and it did help. So this surgery, I am doing to get a better looking body, as well as get off other meds and maybe off my insulin pump. Why did you decide to get bypass?

    Just had surgery

I would report the nurse! I work at a hospital and that would not be tollerated here. Each person is different and will react differently. I hope you will feel better quickly. I had my sleeve in Mexico, and there was not a "drink this much" rule. Hopefully you'll get to go home and rest.
  24. I used ALM. Fantastic experience! So good, that my husband went and did it too. (Both of us got sleeves.)

    Pumping Stomach full of air?

And not all the air can be let out after surgery. That's why they want you up and walking around asap as much as possible. This is the only time they want you to fart! Take gas-x strips with you to the hospital; you just let them melt on your tongue. You would be amazed, but that gas goes all over inside, and many people (like me) will get a pain in the shoulder, and it's that gas.
