  1. So I’m halfway through the 6-month classes for my surgery. I have my cardiac and pulmonary clearances and I’m going to counseling for my psychiatric clearance. I know I am an emotional eater, and I know I’ve gained weight since my last weigh in. My insurance doesn’t require me to lose a certain amount of weight to get approved. I’m just struggling because I’m so stressed with everything. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did your doctor react? I just worry he’ll think I can’t do it. I’m working on it with therapy but it takes time. Ugh.
  2. I just had a follow-up appointment with my bariatric surgeon from my EGD and he said that I have the option between roux-en-Y gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and lap band. The lap band was a no for me, so I have the option between the other two. What is everyone’s input on each surgery and what made them pick one over the other? Thanks in advance!
  3. @elmatador I’m at 275-ish and my goal weight is 170-180. I had heartburn really bad when I was pregnant but I also found out I have a hiatal hernia that will be fixed during surgery
  4. Thank you for all of your input! I’m so torn. Each of them have their appeal and downside. Every time I think I have my mind made up, I end up changing it!
  5. Hello all! I met with the bariatric surgeon on July 13th for my initial consultation and am compleeeeetely overwhelmed. I am having an endoscopy done on July 24th and I will need to see a cardiologist, pulmonologist, psychiatrist, and get a letter of necessity from a family doctor. On top of all of that, I will need to do 6 months of classes. The surgeon said all of this is normal and is also usually required by insurance (BCBS EPO). So I guess I was looking to see if anyone else is this early in their journey, or any seasoned vets who have pearls of wisdom they would like to share. Thanks!

    First step in the process

Thanks for the responses! To _Shane_, the office was able to help out to a degree, but the bariatric surgeon is located an hour away from me and the specialists he specifically referred me to are out of network for me, so I had to have them change the referral to someone local and in network.
