I'm a physician assistant who had orthostasis for the first two years or so (now 4 yrs out), now just occasional. I've looked into this as much as possible and never found a good answer. One issue is the studies that evaluated adverse effects of surgery didn't include this issue in their outcomes, so there is essentially no data. I have looked for case reports, etc. but found very little, certainly nothing that made sense. My surgeon had no idea. At one point, they thought I might have a pituitary tumor because one of the hormone levels was elevated, but it turned out to be elevated BECAUSE of the low blood pressure, which is what is supposed to happen. The last time I saw my internist my BP was 84/62, and I felt "a little" dizzy here and there that day. Generally it runs in the 90s. The way I've come to think of it is that there is "something" that leads obese people to be more likely to have hypertension. But when I was obese, my BP was normal. Now that obesity is absent, whatever "factor" that pushed my BP into the normal range is gone, leading to low BP. I read food labels looking for the MOST salt in a given item rather than the least. That has been helpful for me. I wish I had a better answer. Good luck!

I lost 100 lb (BMI 40 to 23) and have maintained my weight since my surgery. I've had a lot of problems with energy and low blood pressure though since the surgery, both of which I hoped would improve with time, but it's now 2 1/2 years. Anyone else had problems with energy or low blood pressure? Tips, ideas...

I’ve had terrible heartburn most days since my bypass 2.5 weeks ago. They sent me home from the hospital on Prilosec and then made it twice a day. I took 2 (40mg) twice yesterday and still had it tonight. I’ve been thinking about going back to work in the next week or so but this keeps me up, once even to 5:30am. Anyone else have this issue? I thought RYGB was supposed to cure GERD. I’m actually starting to wonder if they did the wrong procedure!

I’m post op day 1 with terrible esophageal spasm. I’m very uncomfortable and they don’t seem to be taking it seriously. Anyone have similar issue and if so what helped?

Bypass tomorrow. Anyone have something they wish they brought to the hospital or something they could have done without? Cell phone, charger, wallet, t-short, toothbrush, underwear... Thanks!

Hey guys, Getting bypass tomorrow and wondered if anyone with BPH (on Flomax) noticed an improvement with less weight pushing on things.
