    2 week pre op diet

I started to drink carbonated diet sodas or Perrier... another option is Metamucil or psyllium husk with water (tastes horrible but works as the psyllium expands in ur stomach. don't overdue the aspartame as it can be bad if u take to much of it...
  4. i have a scar about 3 inches but where the laproscopic instruments were inserted, there are 4 bumps.... kinda like pimples... do these diminish in time or do they stay??... thanks!
  5. thanks for the comments..... i'm kinda funny.... after reading a book on lap band surgery, it tells you of the good and bad foods.... what it boils down to is the 'sugar' we eat. I have cut down almost 100% on my sugar intake and eat no carbs with the exception of some boiled potatoes here and there. when i learned what our liver does with carbs, it all makes sense.. the carbs are broken down into sugars and if you dont give ur liver any sugars or carbs, then it goes after the fat stored in your body. I was 290 on Apreil 22nd '08 and now i just came back from my annual checkup and am down to 212.... an i'm 6' tall.... my bmi has also dropped by 10 points. i also only eat low glycemic veggies like cabbage, lettuce etc... no beans, corn, carrots, fruit juices or peas and no pop but a lot of water.... I eat fish once a week and make a lot of soups. One thing i do also is take a few tablespoons of physillium husk with water and drink that, the physillium husk expands in your stomach to give you satiety..... and not to mention, it keeps me 'regular'. I was a self pay (16000.00) and i look at the lap band as a smoking gun, if i feel i'm losing control, i'll get a fill.... and i must admit that being a widower for almost 8years, i have come to realize nobody wants to date a fat person so all the more motive for me....
  6. thank you... i will try the 'pick and pop'.... as i am 6 months post op, no fills and have lost 78 pounds and 22 to go!...
  7. Welcome. I'm 48, 6' and was 290.... I am a widower with 3 girls, I want to be around for my kids and thats why I went for the lap band.. SWLC and Dr. Mumford were very good... I had my surgery April 22 and have gone down 53 lbs with only a 2cc fill at the time of surgey. Sure I have lost, but I hae done so in the past only to regain.... this time I have a tool in me (an expensive one at that) that if I want or have craving for food, I will get satiety with a fill. As for your competitive background, there are absolutely no restrictions having a lap band.... When I decided to get this done, the SWLC gave me a book to read that was very thorough. Good luck to you and 'shop around' especially if you are a self pay.... Mumford has done around 5000 procedures out of his own clinic in Mississauga.
  8. well said and something for me to ponder..... i havent been filled yet (only 2cc's) when i had my band done and feel no restriction...

    Betrayal is a BITCH

Am I the first male to comment??... I can not understand why people cheat.. especially when have built a family and a foundation. I would LOVE to have another partner.... I have 3 girls and I lost my wife to cancer at age 38... I'm still on my own and it wretches me when I hear stories like yours... cancer is a horrible disease but I stuck with her to the end... NOTHING comes before your family! Dump and go on and you wil find someone.....
  10. you should be fine.... i felt better after 1 week.... just stick to the fluids....
  11. og man i feel for you.... i had it bad for about 5 days postop... i finally got fed up and took milk of magnesia... more than the required amount... that cleaned me out!... are u taking pain killers?.. the codeine in it will make u constipated so only take it if you need to... the gas will subside.. and walking helps but ready to spend some time in the bathroom if u go with milk of magnesia.

    Surgery Scheduled

yes, 1 shake at a time... by day 3 your liver has used up the sugar it stores... then it calls out to your body and uses fat for energy... sugar is what is giving you hunger. after the 3rd day i was fine... just keep sugar out of the preop diet (the longer you stay off sugar the moe fat u'll burn) i am 1 week post op and have no cravings or hunger, i have the odd optifast but as long as i am taking my vitamins and stuff i want to keep this streak going... my only complaint was the gas post op... but soon after you start farting it goes away... keep up with the liquid and like hulk hogan used to say take your vitamins and supplements! im down 27 pounds in 3 weeks.
  17. yes.... shoulder pain is common.... i had mine done on the 29th as well and once you started getting rid of the gas (little burps and farts) it gets easier.... i was so bummed up that i had to take milk of magnesia and now i'm ok.....
  18. Another thing to consider.... many if not all these doctors trained and learned their specialty in the US.
  19. I have been reading a lot of threads... what is pb'ing???... is it common? dangerous?..... Thanks!
  20. I can agree with you all.... this is my first post.... I've struggled for a long time with weight and after losing my wife 7 years ago and having 3 girls to raise.... I want to be around here for a long time.... I'm looking forward to this and this is going to improve all our lives... yes, lets keep in touch!.... mine is at SWLC on the 28th...... what about you guys??.... ALL THE BEST!
