Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
So now that my time is getting closer I'm getting more anxious and worried about things. I worry that I won't have the discipline to eat like I need to after the surgery and I'll ruin everything. I worry that something horrible will happen and I won't make it out of surgery, leaving my kids all alone, and devastate my mom on top of just losing my dad. (I know, morbid thoughts!) I also worry about handling the comments about my weight loss at work since I won't be telling anyone. I haven't even told my boss yet that I am having a surgery since all this other stuff happened. I suppose I need to do that tomorrow. I've very frustrated that I really want to pay for my surgery to get that weight off my chest but my surgeon's billing dept will not call me back! I think I have a good handle on what I'll be eating for the first two weeks after surgery, but that third week has me anxious as I'll be back at work at that point. Need to do a lot of planning for that. To top all this off my husband keeps saying he's not sure if he can get time off for the time I'm in the hospital. I think that's crap but he keeps saying he took all this time off for my dad's funeral and he just started a new job at his company last week. But whatever. My back up help was going to be my mom, but now she's going back to Illinois to be with her family for a few days and won't be back until the day after my surgery. I don't really need anyone to be in the hospital with me (although it would be nice), but I do need someone to get my kids to school so a little help would be nice. UGH...I just think I'm under way too much stress right now!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Hey - question for all of you that in your post-op phase. One of the items I can have in Weeks 1 & 2 are "Strained Low Fat Cream Soup". What type of soup would that be exactly? I'm assuming Cream of Chicken would be ok. No way I'm eating Cream of Mushroom by itself. What else is there? Is there a Cream of Potato?? What about a bisque like Tomato Bisque?

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
Hello all. Checking in as I try and get back to normal as possible. Thank you to everyone that reached out to me and posted kind words. I read them all and really appreciated them. My dad did pass away last week. Even though he was sick for two years, the end was actually so quick and still a shock even though we've know for awhile that it was inevitable. His service is not until this Thursday so my brother and I have been busy with planning the service so my mom doesn't have to. I am also hosting the memorial service/celebration of life at my house after the service so there is a lot to do. It's been good keeping busy but I might just go crazy with all the people in my house! If there is any silver lining it's that time has been flying by since I've been so preoccupied that all my significant dates are fast approaching. My pre-op testing is tomorrow morning. Last appt with the surgeon is Aug 1. And I'll have my surgery fully paid this week. Then its just surviving the 1 week liquid diet. After all this is over, I'll start catching up and adding all the new people and dates to the member list. But not before I have a lot to drink this weekend!

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!
Hey ladies - I’ve been absent a few days and way behind. My dad’s health has deteriorated and he’s been put in hospice. Just spending all the time I can with him and supporting my mom. I’ll try and check in as I can.

How do you deal with emotional triggers in your post-op life?
Thanks - I do try and remember all the relaxing things I do on a regular basis and will work on using those during stressful food times. Bubble baths are good ones for me too. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that just gives in on certain days. In the past I have been good about getting back on track after those times, but the upcoming stress of losing my dad will be a completely new experience so not even sure how I'll handle it.

How do you deal with emotional triggers in your post-op life?
Thanks Danny. I do remember the last two times I was successful in losing weight, my dad was the first to notice. It's a good memory of him.

I am soooooo tired today
Nope...I have severe insomnia and nothing herbal or natural works, I've tried it all! lol I've been avoiding the major sleep medications for awhile and sticking to sedatives, but its clearly time for a change.

How do you deal with emotional triggers in your post-op life?
I'm very much an emotional and stress eater. I've been working on using other methods to channel those emotions and breaking that habit prior to my surgery. However, my dad has chosen to give up his fight against cancer and is leaving hospice to be at home until his time comes. I know when he does pass it will be a truly heart wrenching time for my own feelings, but also supporting what my mom and brother will be feeling. Not to mention helping my kids deal with losing their grandfather. I really want to find strategies now that will help me through this time. I don't want this to be the cause of me going off the rails. I'm wondering what you all do or have done to stay on track through tough times.

I am soooooo tired today
Clearly was so tired on Tuesday I forgot all about this post! lol Didn't mean to ignore everyone commiserating with me!! Didn't get much sleep last night as my dad is back in the hospital, but I'm doing what I can to manage. @ElanBri - How does Ambien affect you? I've been on Trazodone for years but it's becoming ineffective after multiple dosage increases. I had Ambien on time when I was in the hospital a few months ago and I had no adverse effects, despite all the crazy stories you hear about it.
