    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

I was curious too about protein shakes on day 4 post op too and called the nutritionist just to check and she confirmed it was right. I have been taking colace and some other terrible liquid every night too and finally had a bm yesterday so I’m feeling pretty good. I guess the one common theme I keep seeing on our thread is how different each of our docs approach our pre and post op steps but somehow we’re all doing alright, good thing we did as much research as we did on the surgeons. Have a wonderful first weekend with our new sleeves and hope you keep feeling better each day too!

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

I was discharged on Tuesday afternoon somewhat at my request since I was honestly sick of an IV in my hand for two days and it was starting to get in my head a bit. Pain was pretty tolerable to be honest and even my big incision has never really hurt just uncomfortable when I roll over it getting in or out of bed, but waking up in the middle of the night restless is still happening too. Biggest issue I had was gas and bloating and sore muscles resulting from both. I took tons of gasx strips in the hospital and when I got home to very little avail so I called the doc who said I needed to learn how to drink and was getting too much air in my stomach. So I’ve been trying different drinking methods, I haven’t found a good one yet, but also started taking the rx laxatives and have been taking 3/4 hot showers a day, which helped me be able to start releasing the gas and just feel better. Yesterday I woke up feeling felt so much better I decided to go drive and run two errands both close to home and try to get some more exercise and ended up with 5,000 steps which was great. Also started protein shakes yesterday which was awesome because I was really struggling with clears to get enough protein or liquids. Looking forward to having a bit more energy each day and wish you guys all the best. If anyone has heard tips on how to drink without getting excess air in (other than small sips and no straw) please let me know.

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

I am feeling calm as well, just sipping broth and watching football. Best of luck to all of us with our procedures tomorrow morning!!
  5. Hey everyone, sorry if this is a dumb question but I am getting sleeved on Monday and know what to eat post op with clears but I’m not sure how often to try an eat the clear foods. Is this the same frequency as regular meals (8am, noon, 5pm) or are you trying to eat at different intervals. I see that you should be hydrating 1 -2 oz every 15 mins but didn’t know if broth, jello, etc are at specific different times. Just want to be successful and appreciate your experience and thoughts.

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

I have been traveling for the past two weeks so I get it. Been doing great with shakes during the day but dinner has been noncompliant the last few days. Can’t wait to go home so I can have some semblance of self control. Can’t believe how quick this is approaching.
  9. My VSG is scheduled on 1/8 and I have bought the two weeks of Bariatric Advantage Shake mix from my surgeon but have heard the first three days are the hardest. I have been trying to sub in premier protein shakes this week to mentally start to prep but would love to know if any of you have advice for getting through the liquids or how you use the shake mixes so you're not starving, especially after dinner. I am concerned that I am going to fail between dinner and bed time and would love some advice from you guys. Thanks so much.

    Family not supportive

I’m the same age and have the same situation. Not that they are against me but certainly not encouraging and supportive like I hoped. At the end of the day this is our journey and not theirs and it really doesn’t matter if they are supportive or not, our doctors have our backs and there are tons of meet up and support groups so don’t let others hold you back. Best of luck!!

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

I’m scheduled for January 8th as well. Good luck to both of us getting through pre op liquids phase
  12. You’re absolutely right about the prejudices. I am convinced I have been passed over for at least two promotions during my career because I didn’t look like my bosses, I am taller, and yes bigger. All I can do is take the high road, it was their loss and they actually lost me because of it. I am fortunate to be working with a company that appreciates what’s between my ears not what’s under my suit jacket. I can’t wait for the plane seat to fit better traveling 30% of the time, just can’t wait. Best of luck to you!!
  13. Thank you so much for the encouraging words and thoughts. I wish you the best of luck with your procedure and in your journey
  14. Thank you so much. The progresso soups hadn’t occurred to me but sounds like it would take the edge off nothing but protein shakes for two weeks.

    Protein Shakes

I agree with Gretsada, the premier protein shakes in my opinion are the best tasting ones. I buy them when they go on sale at Costco or Sams, which are a great deal. I like the Banana and Strawberries and Cream the best but the Vanilla is pretty good too. I didn't care for the chocolate one but the others have been really good. At 30g protein and 1 carb for 160 calories, I don't know of a better option I've found. Also, my surgeon suggested the premier shakes and bars by name for post op as well and they align nutritionally with the Bariatric Advantage pre-op shakes nutritionally. Hope this is helpful.
  16. What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous. 1. Lack of energy and disinterested in activities that used to make me extremely happy. 2. Missing out on my son's first time at Six Flags since I couldn't buckle the seat belt on the first big roller coaster he wanted to ride and explaining to him afterwards why I couldn't go on (combination of anger at myself and wanting to cry) 3. Not being comfortable at all flying because the seat is too small, seat belt very tight but can't put tray table down 4. Avoiding restaurant booths with tiny seats 5. Nickname big guy every job I've ever had by some skinny boss 6. Custom dress shirts needed to get a collar big enough to close to wear suits to work and still very tight and uncomfortable For me, trying three different kinds of expensive prescription weight loss pills / appetite suppressants (Contrave, Belviq, and Phentermine) only to watch the scale continue to grow over the past six months was my breaking point that I needed to do something drastic. Thanks so much for the support, Jim
  17. Got confirmation my VSG date is 1/8/2018. Travelling for work this week but getting ready for the liquid pre-diet for two weeks this week by subbing in protein shakes for breakfast for normal breakfast foods (what's normal right). On vacation next week and then Christmas but time flies and I know the days to surgery are going to fly by. Probably not helping that I am thinking about this all day pretty much but life changing, so hard not to be anxious for the transformation to start. Best of luck to all of you this week in making good choices!
