  1. I understand how you are confused. I thought I had no restriction, because I could keep eating. (I was banded Dec 13) I met someone whose doctor said to skip the mushies stage and go right to solids to make the band work. I tried that with dry spare ribs and after the third bite, I got a huge pain in the center of my chest because nothing was moving. Now I think I get it. I realized I was eating mostly soft stuff like cottage cheese. I think I'm going to postpone my fill next week until I find out whether I am able to eat more meat. Anyone else in this boat?
  2. Congrats New girl. I was banded by Dr. Lopez on Dec. 13. Everything went smoothly as far as the surgery went. Make sure you know where and when they will pick you up. I waited at the airport in San Diego for 45 minutes and didn't know if I was in the right spot or if they had forgotten about me. I was ready to turn around and go home! Apparently, the pickup before me was late due to a late flight, so that put the pickup schedule behind. After I was picked up, everything was fine. I even met another Canadian who was there for the same thing on the same day. I am so glad I was banded, the weight is coming off slowly but surely. I am going to Northwest Fills near Everett for my fills. There are three of us in Surrey/Langley who are getting together casually now and we hope to find others. Let us know how it works out for you. Best wishes.
  3. Thanks Doddie63. I sent her an email. I'd love to speak to others about how they are doing.
  4. Hi Doddie63, I am in Cloverdale. I know there is a group meeting in North Van, but I was hoping for a group closer to home. Any ideas?
  5. Hi everyone, I was just banded in Mexico at Hospital Angeles (Dr. Lopez Corvala) on Dec 13 and so far, so good. Before I left I investigated fills in Washington State, since BC doctors that do fills seem few and far between. There is a clinic called Fills Northwest near Everett that does fills and takes Canadian patients ($150 per fill). I am also interested in getting in touch with BC lap-band recipients. Anyone out there?
  6. Hi everyone, I want the lapband, but I have questions that I need answered to relieve my anxiety about side effects. I hope some of you who have had the surgery will have the answers. Everyone seems so friendly here! #1 Do you get acid reflux? I already have a little of this and it feels like a burning lump above my stomach. #2 I've heard about throwing up. True? #3 What kind of food do you have to avoid? #4 GAS??? #5 Any other side effects or rumours that I can put to rest? Thanks so much!
  7. Our whole family is overweight. A relative is thinking of going to Hospital Angeles in Tijuana Mexico (belightweight.com) In addition to the lower cost ($8000), we have heard about many positive results. Has anyone else heard of this particular hospital? I want to get it done too, but I've heard ugly stories about surgeries in other areas of Mexico. THANKS.
