  1. So....I'm new to the group. Will finish my insurance mandated diet October 18th and will schedule ds surgery for November. I've been working for months with doctors and have informed my family of the plans. Now that it's getting closer to the date they're all starting to say things like...."why not just eat healthier?" Or "are you sure you can go your whole life eating like that?" Anyone else have similar issues? How can I get them to see this is necessary for me to live a happier, healthier life?

    Ds vs. bypass

I'm still struggling between having a ds, and a bypass. I'm terrified of surgery, and want to only have to do it once. My doctor has assured me that I have narrowed it down to the correct two surgeries for me, but says it's a personal choice. I have done tons of research, and am leaning more towards the ds, but am scared of the extra risks. Any advice would be great! My insurance mandated diet is over next month. I'll be having surgery hopefully in November.

    Non supportive support system

I know that's it's dumb to need reassurance. I know I'm doing what's best for me. I shouldn't care what anyone thinks anymore. But I have to say, you all have made me feel SO much better! Lol. Thank you everyone for all the kind words and support. It's exactly what I needed. [emoji173]️[emoji173]️

lol yes! Thank you! I'm just ready to have it over. I've been waiting for what feels like forever! (6 month mandated diet). All I've heard is negativity. Congratulations on your successful surgery. I hope to be you one day soon! I'm having the ds in around November. 1 more month of the counseling, nutritionist, and classes! [emoji173]️[emoji173]️

    Ds vs. bypass

Very true! I was told there was equal risk of dumping with either surgery. (Not by my surgeon).

    Ds vs. bypass

My doctor is very confident in both. He told me my best options were ds or bypass and the choice was up to me. The fact that not many doctors offer it kind of concerns me. I've heard so many stories about gastric bypass not working. People gain all their weight back. Can't imagine going through all this and having that be the outcome.

My husband is super supportive. He's been with me and has seen my struggles through the years. He would always lose his 20lbs, and I'd lose nothing. He's seen the fasting, dieting, and then the guilt. He wants this for me. My best friend, my brother, and my grandmother are the only other ones I have. They all have negative/ rude comments. Like thanks, never thought to eat healthy! My mom died 2 years ago of a stroke at 53. She wasn't nearly as over weight as I am. I fear that I don't have a 60 year old self if I don't do this! I'm only 28, I need and want to be here as long as I can. Thanks for the support! [emoji173]️

Everyone I've talked to says it's the best decision they've ever made. Have you run across anyone who really does regret it?? Just wondering. As it gets closer it's starting to feel more real and my anxieties are going crazy

Thanks. Just seems like every time I talk to one of them they have something negative to say. I would say they're just concerned for me, but it doesn't feel that way! Lol

    Ds vs. bypass

Really....that's very interesting. I know ds is better for long term, and that's why I'm leaning more towards it. Also, my BMI is around 53 so I would need to loose a substantial amount of weight. I knew someone who was around 400lbs and lost about 100 just to gain it all back plus some. She had the sleeve though. My doctor says he's very confident in both procedures. But, he also says the bypass is the "work horse" of weight loss surgery and he's done loads more of those. I guess that doesn't mean anything....I dno. Just scared to be honest

    Ds vs. bypass

The extra risk of malnutrition, the longer procedure, and the increased percentage of complications during and after surgery. What is the difference between sips ds and regular? I've never heard of that.
