  1. Hi Everyone I'm still here. Had a four day weekend for the holiday. What a pleasure!!! I worked around the house all day today, trying to get stuff done. I get my surgery date on Thursday, July 10th, so I thought I better get what I can done before surgery, so I can take it a bit easier after surgery. Hope everyone one had a good holiday. It sure got warm here in NW Indiana (about 87 today) and very dry.
  2. In the General Discussion FAQ thread there is a picture tutorial on the ticker. Just type "ticker" in the search box.
  3. Hi Buttcha I live in Lake County - Schererville. We are only a few miles apart. I am having my lapband done at Methodist Hopsital in Merrillville, by Dr. Paul Stanish. I get my date when I see him on Thursday, July 10th To answer your questions about pre-diets. Some insurance plans require a doctor supervised diet for six months prior to approving the surgery. Then there is 12 day full liquid diet two weeks before the surgery, with the 2 days before surgery only allowing Clear Liquids. After the surgery, it's back to the full liquids for then pureed food for a while. Methodist has seminars on a frequent basis. The date are on their internet site. The program is called ReStart. I have been doing a low carb diet during my six month supervised diet, and lost over 40 pounds so far. They say it's best to lose what you can before the surgery, because it makes in easier. I feel better already!!! Good luck to you, and keep it touch.
  4. plevy ... Congratulations! I'm sure it seemed like it took forever to get approval- I know it did for me. I still don't have a date for my surgery. I should have my date on July 10th, when I see the surgeon, again. Had all my lab work done the other day. Good luck to you, and hope to keep hearing from you.
  5. Bjane, Glad to hear you are doing fine. You know that it is going to be so worth the work in the end.
  6. Carol Hang-in there! I started out in Oct. 07, and finally see the doctor for a surgery date on July 10th. I still think that it is worth the wait. In the meantime, diet the best that you can as the surgery will be easier if you lose some weight before hand. Good Luck!
  7. I just got the call .... I am approved for my surgery!!!!! I scheduled my class for Wednesday. Hopefully, I will have a date for the surgery soon.
  8. Bjane: Glad to hear your surgery went well. Hang in there, and keep in touch with how you are doing.
  9. Sharon: Sorry to hear about your back. I know how it affects everything. Hang in there, and I hope you feel much better soon. PT is usually a great help.
  10. Hi Damienne, Just checking in to see how your surgery went. Take care.
  11. I was gone out of town to see my grandson play T- ball for a little while, and just wanted to say hello. I am still waiting for insurance approval, and hope to hear soon. The weight clinic sent my records for insurance approval late last week, and I hope to hear this week. I went to my first support group meeting, and found that somewhat helpful. Many people there had bypass - not lap band. I meet a friend there I have not seen in a while, and she lost 67 pounds since December. Wow!
  12. Damienne I think this might help you... I just got back for a gastric surgery support group, and not one person there regrets having surgery. Some just had the surgery, and some had the surgery years ago. Good luck with your decision. In the end you must do want you feel is best for you.
  13. Thanks for this thread. I am waiting for a date for my surgery and have more than 100# to lose. This thread is very inspriring!!! Thanks again!!!
  14. Sorry, I don't have any advise for you. However, I wanted to wish you good luck with the test. Take care.....
  15. Thanks for the words of encourgement. Looks like we should have our surgery at about the same time. I wish you all the best. I see that you are also a quilter. It's a small world isn't it?
  16. Today I had my last doctor's visit for the six-month supervised diet my health insurance required. I was excited to get my class scheduled and get a surgery date for June. Well, the May class is filled and I can't take a class until June. So, I probaly won't have the surgery until July, or possibly August. Ugh! Also, now they tell me that it's a two week liquid diet before the surgery. I thought they said one week on the liquid diet previously. I am hanging in there, but this had been a long road. GOOD NEWS is I lost 10 pounds this month!!! Looks like I will have sometime to lose some more prior to the surgery.
  17. Sounds, like you are doing great! Hang it there, and log everything you eat. I use sparkpeople.com (it's free), and it helps be track everything for my low carb 6 month supervised diet pre-surgery. Low carb gets easier after a week or so, as you loss your desire for sweets. I find that I lose weight well when on a low carb, not NO carb, diet. There is a lot of information on the net, just type low carb in any search engine. Fruit really heps me avoid sweets. GOOD LUCK! Please tell me all about the surgery, pre-op and post op diets. I go for my last visit with my family doctor Thursday, and then I should be getting a surgery date soon, so I am very interested.
  18. I think every doctor does something different. My family doctor just said to "eat less and excerise more", than the dietican and surgeon both told me to do low carb. I have now lost almost 30 pounds cutting out sweets, white bread, white rice and potatoes. I wish you well on your journey. Keep in touch.
  19. I think sometime soon after my last appointment for the six months supervised diet, I will be able to get a surgery date. It seems strange to go thought all of these steps, and not have a date for the surgery. Thanks for all your kind words. :welldoneclap:
  20. Thanks for your encouraging comments, and good luck with your weight loss journey. Keep in touch and let me know how you do in your journey.
  21. Thanks for your support1 It's great having people you have been there help me though this process.
  22. I have been doing pretty good on the supervised diet for lap band approval, and think maybe should I just stick with the diet and not the band. I know that having to be accountable when the doc weighs me on the supervised diet is part of that success. Then, I think about another time when I lost a great deal of weight only to gain it back and lots more. That seems to be my biggest problem, I loss and then I gain back. Did anyone else have second thoughts? I only have three more weeks until the supervised diet ends, and then I am told I should have no problem being approved for lap band. :frown:
  23. Keep up the great work!
  24. I'm on a low carb diet waiting to get banded, and today I marked 20 pounds lost, and in the TWO's!!!! Having to be accountable during the supervised diet really helps. I was very pleased with myself yesterday. I had a terrible day at work, but stuck to the diet. Normallly, I would treat myself to something very bad for me, because I was so upset, tired and frustrated. On the drive home I just keep telling myself, I needed to do what was best for my health, and eating poorly would not fix the problem.
  25. Thanks for the post!!!! I am hoping to be banded in June, and need to lose more than 100 lbs. Your post and that LONG list have really given me hope and encourgement!
