  1. I sure am glad to hear from other foodies. I have such a large cookbook collection, love the foodnetwork, and love learning about new food and trying new places to eat. I am waiting to be banded, and decided to use my same interested to try to find healthy, fresh, and quality alternatives. It;s not how much you it, but how WELL you eat.
  2. Hi Sharon. I sure am glad I found this tread, as we all have a lot in common. Wow! eleven grandkids, that must keep you real busy! I am trying to get use to not drinking with meals, and chewing better. I know I ate way too fast before. I am very sure that was a big part of my problem. Also, I have given up soft drinks. It's been about two weeks, so now it is getting easier to do with out the diet pop. Like I mentioned before, I am also trying to reduce the carbs, especially the refined sugar. Good Luck to you! I've been a widow for 18 years, and live alone, so I don't have to worry about the temptation of brownies baking.
  3. JoAnn It sounds like we all have a lot in common. My kids were older when they had my grandchildren, so my grandchild are very young. Wish they lived a lot closer. The 4 year old is the closest, and that is a 21/2 hour drive. The 2 , and they help alot! However, I will still need a knee replacement someday. I hope I can take my meds after the lapband, or I will really be in pain. Good luck in your search for a lapband that accepts Medicare!!! Keep in touch.
  4. I am preparing for my band most likely in late June. The doc says I should do low carb. Any suggestions on good recipes or a cookbook. I want to be below 300# before surgery.
  5. Thanks for the warm welcome! I am a grandmother of three wonderful boys who are 2 months old, 3 years old, and 4 years old. I am looking forward to retiring, and have more time to see them. I love to quilt, and I love to cook. I have been busy buying low carb cookbooks, as they tell me they want me on a high protein low carb diet. Sweets are my downfall for sure!!! I welcome any suggestion for a good tested low carb cookbook. I was heavy all my adult life, but I had a bad fall a few years ago and fractured my back. I really gained the weight after that, as it was difficult to do much of anything. I have problems with my knees, and ankles and my back. So I really need to loss 150 pounds so I can keep mobile. I am counting on everyone here for support. It's great to know I am not alone.
  6. Hi everyone! I am very new to the forum, and just found the 60+ thread. I find alot of helpful information on the forum, but it nice to see some others in my age group. I am 60 and just getting ready for lap band. I meet the surgeon the day before yesterday, and now I need to finish the 6 month supervised diet my insurance requires. I am still working, but hope to retire in a few years. I want to be healthy, and able to do things to enjoy that retirement. I am looking forward to getting to know you all better.
  7. Good Luck! Take it a day at a time, and you will suceed.
  8. Thanks JWGR Yes, I am fine. Of course, I am concerned about the liquid diet and mushes stage. It's short term so I know I can do it, one day at a time. The doctor also says he wants me off all sweets - that will be harder. Honestly that is my big downfall. I welcome any suggestions on how anyone else handled the no sweets. When did you have your surgery?
  9. I meet the surgeon for the first time today, and he said I would be on a liquid diet for one week prior to surgery.
  10. Renee I hope you are feeling well. I imagine you are on the liquid diet now. Keep me posted on how you progress. Hey, maybe I will see you at a support group meeting one day. Sounds like Dr. Stanish is very well liked. I have been very impressed with all of the staff, and the program.
  11. Hi Tweety I have not got my final approval just yet, but I think everything looks good for approval. Sure wish you the best. Let me know how you are doing. Have you started the pre-op diet?
  12. Hi Sandi I am from Schererville, Indiana. I am scheduled to see Dr.Stanish on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 for his approval. I already finished the phsy elvaluation and meet with the dietican. I still need to finish my supervised diet, which should end in Mid May. I hope to get to the support group. Do you attend?
  13. I also hope to have the surgery soon (end of June or early July). I meet with the surgeon on Tuesday. He is my final approval for surgery, and I must finish my surpervised diet (Mid May). I live one hour south of Chicago in Schererville, Indiana which is only five miles for the Illinois border near Lynwood. Where are you in Illinois? Where are you having your surgery. Best of luck!!! Let me know how your progres. I just joined this formum today. Maybe we can be of support to each other. Are you eager, or frighten?
  14. I plan to attend to the local support group. Thanks for the advise.
  15. Hi ! I just found this site, and the timing is great. I see my surgeon on Tuesday, and he is the final approval I need for lap band. I am eager, and a little nervous. I think that the liquid diet will be the hardest part. Sounds like this group can answer lots of questions and give lots of support. Is there any one else here from Northwest Indiana?:biggrin2:
