  2. Getting the sleep study is the first step. I was able to get approved for the surgery with my insurance due to my sleep apnea. My husband was apprehensive and, by the grace of God, there were a LOT of steps for me to get to the point where my surgery is scheduled. With state assistant, they require you to attend 12 physical therapy appointments, 12 dietitian appointments, 12 appointments with a bariatric certified counselor and 6 appointments with my primary care doctor. It took a year to get to this point and my husband has been with me through it all. Asking for his help was the biggest thing for me and now, when he gets the munchies for our four kids on Friday nights, he'll pick up my favorite chocolate protein bar and that helps me. It's fair to think that he's scared for you regarding surgery. My brother keeps telling me I could die during surgery and I just told him that I have a higher chance of dying from getting into a car crash while driving to work than I do dying from this procedure.
