April 25, 2018
YAYYYYYYY!!!!! Hi Surgery Buddy. My surgery is the same day and I am also on day 4 of my clear pre op liquid diet. It's not too bad but I think it is because I am meeting 60 grams of protein though my premier protein shakes (30 grams protein each) and I am taking all of my vitamins/calcium vits as well. I am also drinking 64 oz or more and I am loving PowerAde Zero right now. I've only had my two shakes and PowerAde Zero and a cup of decaf coffee today and I'm not hungry at all. Head hunger is there but I love practicing avoiding that before surgery. My husband doesn't eat around me so he's helping me through it as well. So glad to see someone else on the same journey!!!! Are you doing the sleeve or bypass?

Head says "Eat! Eat! Eat!" How do I get through it?!
I bought a treadmill of Craigslist that is a NICE model for only $150. I am deterred by exercise when I have to go somewhere and do it especially in crummy weather.....I live in Wisconsin and it changes on the drop of a dime. I put my treadmill in my garage and it causes me to just sometimes out of nowhere jump up and go for a walk with my headphones and a pump up song. Its a great getaway for myself and I love music so it's awesome. This might be a great idea so you can go for a walk whenever you want and never have to leave home if its crummy or inconvenient or you just don't feel like doing your hair and makeup and want to wear your ugly pair of sweats. I also keep resistance bands...I work for PT so I have the rubber bands for free, also I fill up gallon water jugs with water to give me something to lift. Gatorade bottles filled with sand also work great.

Anxiety and Surgery
Hi wjgo when I created the post I said it is from Anxiety & OCPD. The OCPD is the part where I've been a perfectionist planning everything to a T from the Pre-Op steps that my insurance has made me jump through for the past 10 months which has caused me to be stressed and has caused me to overplan. But yes like the title of the post it is in regards to Anxiety and Surgery and like you stated the worrying that it can bring on even during and after surgery is very stressful. It is common for most people however it can become exacerbated when you do already have anxiety as that is what anxiety is.... and obviously if this is the first surgery someone has ever had it can make a stressful situation become even more stressful. Thanks for the warning on no sleep. I know they say that it is really important to get sleep for the recovery process so I will try to get some essential oils or something to maybe help the sleeping process before surgery.

Powerade Zero
Plus mio has sugar and calories even though its low quantity.

Powerade Zero
I really hate the mio drops and the crystal light, they taste very artificial to me so I gave them all to my husband, it was sad because I had some great sounding flavors!!

Anxiety and Surgery
SUMMARY: 1. OCD is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder where as OCPD is Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder. 2. Obsessions and compulsion are present in OCD and not present in OCPD 3. Symptoms of OCD often fluctuate at times, but with little change in personality. 4. OCPD seeks treatment because of some conflicts; OCD seeks treatment because of psychological stress. 5. A person with OCD is preoccupied with behaviors that are senseless while a person with OCPD is obsessed with rules, organization and perfection. Read more: Difference Between OCD and OCPD | Difference Between http://www.differencebetween.net/science/health/difference-between-ocd-and-ocpd/#ixzz5CfLEZgk5 You bet, it sounds like your husband definitely had OCD whereas it sounds like you have developed OCPD traits like me. The main difference between OCD and OCPD is that OCPD doesn't really cause diruptions in everday life whereas OCD and the obsessions cause a person to not be able to properly follow through with some everyday tasks. For instance, your husband having the tap the doorframe could have caused him to be late for work (not that he was) but if he happened to be running late one day he still would have preferred to run late so he could tap the doorframe causing a disruption in everyday life. OCPD is obsessed with organizing, list, planning ahead. These traits are normal to most people however we tend to carry it a little overboard for instance if I created a calendar for April and wrote in my schedule, if there is a slight change to the schedule that I would have to pencil in onto the printed sheet, I would create the entire sheet again from scratch just because I would hate that one flaw of a pencil mark.

To Jump or Not to Jump
I know the fear, it can get better with some low impact strengthening exercises, plus to look at the bright side if I do need to get a knee replacement in the future at least they last up to 20 years and I'll be part bionic.

To Jump or Not to Jump
Okay, so I work both Physical Therapy and Urgent Care. I know, an obese sleeve patient in PT, ironic right? However, upon talking with our therapist they said that you are not going to want to do any jumping exercises as it puts too much pressure on your joints until you lose weight. It sucks to have to wait but this can help you not damage your knees or hips. You see a lot of patients post op who strain their joints too much and need replacements. I'm not saying this to deter you but to hopefully offer you some insight. It is no joke the amount of obese patients early in their 30's who are post surgery replacements and I feel that bringing that weight down on your joints in the form of jump roping would just exacerbate the situation. There are many modification's to your favorite exercises that are low impact on your joints. Please be careful!!!!!!

Anxiety and Surgery
DaleCruse you are right. With OCPD it is channeled in a more positive form but it has become a weakness with this situation. I appreciate that I am not the only one out there like this!!!!! Frustr8 I love your positivity! You are very inspirational and somehow just from reading your post it takes a little more stress out of this situation. I love the way you look at things it's magnetic!!

Powerade Zero
So I am 4 days into my 2 week liquid diet and my surgery is scheduled for April 25th. I have always been an avid water lover. But lately due to not being able to eat I am just craving something to taste. I have my sugar free popsicles and jello. My low sodium chicken/beef broth but it has just not been cutting it for me. I also have crystal light and mio but they have too much of an artificial taste for my liking. My liquid diet has to be Clear Pre-Op. On the list my nutritionist said that PowerAde Zero is okay. I am in love. It satisfies my tastebuds but it also helps me get my liquid in which fills me up. It has electrolytes and B vitamins and this paired with my premier 30gram protein shakes, multi vitamin, and calcium vitamin I am set for the day. I'm getting all my protein and my fluid (I also drink water, and have decaf coffee mixed with a shake). Has anybody else gotten hooked on this stuff and does it still taste as good to you after surgery? I work in the health care field and I see how detrimental dehydration can be so that is the one thing that terrifies me and I was hoping this might help if I cannot get water down so easily after surgery. I drink it at room temperature as well.

Anxiety and Surgery
That is a great way to look at things and honestly calmed me down a little bit even as a read it. I'm thinking of creating a list of reasons like that and take it with me that day when I feel anxious. I think since its my first surgery it's just a little terrifying that I'm letting go of all control and putting my body in someone else's hands to cut parts out of me.

2 Week Pre Op Liquid Diet
I know right! I'm not knocking anyone's experience but I would give anything for the to just be able to chew some actual food. My doctor is way strict but I will have to follow their rules. At least I know if I can make it through this I can make it through anything!!
-
Any April surgery buddies
I love your creativity when it came to the broths! I hadn't thought of going that outside of the box and the different flavors would be a welcome addition to the monotonous clear liquid diet I'm already struggling through!

Anxiety and Surgery
I'm going to have to do this. I think you're right, just knowing I have it with me might be enough to quell my nerves!!!

2 Week Pre Op Liquid Diet
I would give anything to have tuna and veggies. Can we all just combine the best parts of our diets and have popsicles tuna and veggies for two weeks~ I am so excited to see someone with the same surgery date/liquid diet as me!!!!!!! Super nervous here even though I've been a cool cucumber for the past 10 month journey. I love the idea of ice making a smoothie. I think it's really the texture I'm missing and having something to chew even if it is minuscule!!

April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?
So far I've lost 4 lbs in 2 days.

Any April surgery buddies
I am on the 2 week pre op liquid diet that started Wednesday. My surgery is April 25th. Unfortunately, I wish I could eat pudding and yogurt however my doctor has me on a CLEAR liquid diet which means I am restricted to broth, sf jello, sf popsicles, mio, crystal light etc. I can have protein shakes however but those get tiresome real fast. I am having no trouble meeting my fluid intake however I am so hungry I'm nauseous and not now. I've been feeling foggy, and occasionally dizzy even though I am taking vitamins religiously all of the ones my doctor told me to. Does anyone know of anything I can add to my clear liquid diet to give me a little reprieve?

Surgeon Uses Endoscope To Determine Sleeve Size
My surgeon says that instead of a bougie to create the pouch they already have an endoscope in me so they will use the endoscope to measure/create the size of my pouch (pouch will be the size of the endoscope).

Anxiety and Surgery
Okay, so I have VERY bad anxiety. I plan and plan and plan even small things like my grocery list. I have what my therapist says is OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder) and anxiety. I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there with anxiety as well and how you plan on handling your surgery day. Mine is at 7:15 am but start the process at 5:30 am so I'm not only going to be tired from the 2 hour car trip (3 am is not an optimal wake up time for me) but I am also not going to be in the happiest of moods. Therefore, positive thinking is out the window. I can try maybe breathing techniques. My anesthesiologist seems to completely disregard anxiety so I might have to point blank tell her to give me something that morning or I am going to make a run for it.
