Lap Band Surgery in Vancouver Area?

Dr. Wai Man Leung 604 581 2515 200 - 13798 94A Ave, Surrey I had consults with both Woodhead & Leung just this past April. Dr Woodhead did my surgery on May 14, 2008. I was going to have to wait until the end of July 2008 for Leung.

    New here and grateful!

Yep, surgery at Delta hospital. It is the most wonderful hospital. Small but clean and the staff are all wonderful. My husband still can't believe that the parking there is free. I took 1 week off of work and that was just perfect for me. I probably could have gone back earlier if I had to but I would have wanted at least 4-5 days off in a row for sure. Dr Woodhead didn't seem to be as adamant on a pre-op diet as I've heard other doctors are. I'm not sure if that varies by patient or not. My BMI was 39 pre-surgery and I didn't really follow a pre-op diet. I lost 3 lbs before surgery and that was it. But after the surgery Dr W said that my liver was great and the band placed 'nicely'. Any other questions feel free to ask although I have to admit that I'm doing lots of asking myself. I'm not as clever as I think I am.

Hi Anita, welcome. I was just banded by Dr Woodhead on May 14. The first 3-4 days were hard but I feel great now. Maybe I'll bump into you at his office sometime. Cassie

Lap Band Surgery in Vancouver Area?

Doddie is correct. My very first consult/meeting with Dr Woodhead was on April 18, 2008 and my surgery date was May 14, 2008. Not too long at all.

    DR Wai leung

I only know of Dr Leung (in Surrey), Dr Woodhead (in Delta/Ladner) and Dr Amson (in Victoria).

    Throwing up??

I think that the nausea is quite common but my doc advised me to try to avoid vomiting at all costs. I picked up some chewable Gravol and they did the trick.

    DR Wai leung

I believe the minimum BMI is 35. I had a consult with Dr Leung last month and got a July surgery date but ended up going with Dr Woodhead in Delta, BC. Only had a 4-6 week wait between my consult and surgery date. I was banded last Wednesday 05/14.

    New Bandster 5/14/2008

I was banded 05/14 and had the hernia repair at the same time as well. I am starting to feel more like myself. I still have a bit of pain in one shoulder (is this gas pain still??) and once in awhile I get a painful spasm in my diaphragm area (sort of feels like a very painful hiccup) and I *think* it's from the hernia repair. But I am definitely starting to feel hungry now. The liquids aren't cutting it anymore. It's going to be hard to do another week of liquids. Ugh.
  9. Hi Ang,

I hope you don't mind answering a couple of questions for a stranger. I only just found the lapbandtalk site a couple of days ago. Until then I'd been getting all of my info from the bcbandits yahoo group and WLS yahoo group. At this stage in the game I have decided I do want to have the lapband procedure and I am waiting to have my consult with Dr. Leung of Surrey. I thought he was the only doctor in the lower mainland that performed the surgery but you saw Dr. Woodhead in Delta? How did you find out about him? Do you know how long he's been doing the procedure? Have you heard anything about how he compares to Dr. Leung? How long of a wait list does he have? Thanks so much for taking the time to answer. I've heard that Dr. Leung has about a 6 month wait list and his bedside manner leaves much to be desired but that he is an excellent surgeon. I live in Pitt Meadows so Delta vs Surrey are about the same to me. Which hospital does Dr. Woodhead perform surgery out of?

    Thanks again Ang!

    Cassie
