  1. Hey all, This is my first post on this site, but I have been following and reading many posts before and following my surgery. I finally decided to speak up and talk about some of my experiences so far. For starters, my first couple weeks post surgery went well, but boy were they miserable. Now when I say "miserable," I do not mean that I was in pain or that I had regrets, but it was more of a matter of it being a full time job plus overtime just trying to stay hydrated and fed. Before surgery, I was a chugger. I would just down obscene amounts of water at different intervals during the day and that is how I functioned. The same came from my eating habits. I would just eat twice a day, but large amounts and at a significant pace. I realize in hindsight that those things were part of the reason I got to be as unhealthy as I was. The learning curve came in viciously as I had to relearn consumption habits. I had to carry around 3 different cups during the day to get in my diluted juice, water, and protein shakes throughout the day. I had to set alarms to remind myself to eat and exercise. Now that I am 5 weeks out, I have come a long way already. I've lost 30 lbs post surgery, I have been able to take larger swallows of liquids at a higher rate as well, and best of all I can finally eat ALMOST NORMAL FOOD! Basically over the course of this past month, I have cooked in bulk and eaten the same thing for 2 weeks at a time, interjecting some fruits when I could. I have my first follow up appointment with my doctor tomorrow and I know he is going to nail me on my protein consumption because I am horrible about remembering to drink my shakes, but I am trying. They are just disgusting and I am getting burnt out on them. If you guys have any suggestions on different types of protein shakes or unflavored powders, I would appreciate them. I need them to be somewhat budgetable though. Currently on Sam's Premier Chocolate powder. Anyways, thanks for listening to my ramblings and I look forward to hearing from you guys. Share away btw. I love learning of other's experiences!
