@berry78@newme17 To answer as best as I can... I have been eating about 70% plant based for a year or two, mostly due to turning 40 a few years ago & the ol' bod started getting goofy - LOL! I've never been able to digest red meat well anyway, so I don't miss it. 20 years ago I was put on Paxil to get through a divorce, and that was my undoing. I became a zombie. I gained 200 lbs in 2 years, mostly because I slept. I shut down. I'm not a binge eater, but anything I put in my mouth hung on in my zombie state. I've just been unable to get any sort of metabolism going since then. 20 years of 300+ lbs has taken its toll, but my BP & BS were always too low for insurance to cover surgery. In Jan this year, I just got fed up. I've been studying voraciously all these years to be prepared for the sleeve, and stumbled across Proteinaholic a while back. I've since been studying Dr. Campbell (The China Project), whose research echoes and reinforces it. The date of my first consult, this go round, was May 24th. I came home and put myself on the VGS post-op diet then and there, only with WFPB veg. I stayed under 1000 calories as well. So, from May 24th to my surgery on Aug 7, I effectively lost all the visceral fat on my organs. My surgeon was amazed, as someone weighing 300 lbs ALWAYS has visceral fat. I attribute the loss to the caloric reduction and the WFPB fuel. Does that help? Yes, there were some really tough days, but those were mostly during the liquid days. It. Was. Hard. Work. But I am proof the diligence pays off. And I feel better every day! catt

Hi Guys!! I'm officially 10 days post on, and doing SUPER on WFPB!!! Now, I'm still on liquids until the 24th, but have been making my own veggie juices and LURVE them!!! On a side note, in immediate post on, my surgeon told us that I had NO VISCERAL FAT on my organs!! Completely unheard of for a 300lb person!! I know that this is because of my diet. This alone makes me super happy!! And I wish that same health and happiness for ALL!!! HW 355 SW 315 CW 301 catt

Thanks, Veggie Warriors!!!! I'm sitting up in hospital, been out walking pretty much every hour - then 1 oz water &a nap after walking. The soreness is quite tolerable, and they put a patch behind my ear for nausea, which is SOOOO great in these first days!!! Hoping to be home tomorrow evening, as our Home Goal is to get 1oz liquid down consistently per hour, then bump up to 1oz every 30mins. And I seem to be doing well with water & clear broth. Small Goals = Small Victories!!!! [emoji178] catt
  11. Me again! I just received my surgery date of August 7, and I'm SO STOKED!!! I've also cleared an even 30 lbs, and am still 10 days away from pre-op liquids! I'm taking this in Small Victories : last week I broke a personal threshold, when I finally got below 330 for the first time in over 15 years. My awesome hubby feigned non-recognition, LOL!!! So many of you have posted about your trips to Onederland, I'm over here looking Sooooo forward to Twoville!! Thanks again for the beautiful sharing of your stories, inspiration, and real life. FYI - had my pre-op visit yesterday, and my soy and pea protein are totally working! I'm getting about 40 grams per day on liquid pre-op diet. And, as I am allergic to ALL substitute sweeteners, I've been taking half in my green juice AM, and half in broth PM. My surgeon said all my vitamin levels were great, and my liver is smaller than any he'd seen in pre-op. If you doubt, don't! I feel better than ever going into Sx on Monday!!! catt

I'm on the home stretch! Had a wonderful pre-op appointment, complete with great blood work! Vitamin levels up, lipids down. Whew!!!! All the hard work really does pay off!!! One more weekend on liquids - see everyone on the flip side!!! [emoji6] HW: 365 CW: 315 SW: ? GW: 150-175 catt

Hi Newme17! I also started reading Proteinaholic , just last night, and I echo your sentiments. I've had a rocky relationship with animal protein most of my life, and have just always fared better with plants. My hubby says my "green days" are starting to outnumber the omni ones. Up until the pre-op liquids that I'm currently in the middle of, I was doing great - 30lbs lost! I'm really appreciative of the validation of NOT needing whey protein to get me through the surgery. And I hope to share more thoughts and insights with you!! catt

Best Apps for tracking food & exercise?

I have to say that Baritastic is pretty awesome! Nice, clean interface, links with lots of other apps, recipes offered. My hubby even uses it, even though he's not getting Sx, just to monitor the dailies! catt
