  1. So I have a (likely) surgery date of December 13th, pending insurance approval. Any other people having a gastric bypass in December and want to be buddies? I hope we can keep this thread going as we prepare for surgery, and after!

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

Had a two-week follow-up appointment with the bariatric advanced practice nurse last night. She said my incisions look good! I am cleared to start vitamins, transitioning to soft solid foods, and baths! Back to work next week (a mix of ugh and yay)!

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

It's two days post-surgery for me. I had some very intense pain yesterday, but they finally found something to give me that broke through that last night, and now I'm doing a lot better. Still sore, but minimal nausea, I am able to walk a little bit, and I'm doing okay with broth and jello! This is tough, but it's been particularly wonderful to have the support I've had these past few days. My boss sent me flowers, and my boyfriend stayed with me the whole day yesterday. My mom is coming to take me home this afternoon too. Looking forward to that! Anyways, it's been great to have this thread going. We're halfway through the month of December, so a lot of us have had surgery and we still have more going through it in the coming days. Let's all try to remember how different -and GOOD- our 2018s are going to be! I'm looking forward to this journey for next year!

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

You're almost there! The last handful of days before surgery were pretty nerve wracking. You're gonna be on the other side soon though too-just keep reminding yourself of all the reasons you're doing this. good luck!

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

I had my surgery last night. The surgeon said it went really well, though I've been in a lot of pain. I'm feeling good now though - pain is starting to decrease, my boss just sent me flowers, my boyfriend is on his way to visit me, and most importantly...I'm on the next step of this journey! Good luck to everyone having surgery the rest of this month!

Congrats to everyone who has had their surgery in the first few days of December! I can't believe I have 9 days until mine! I'm freaking out!

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

I'm really excited to share that I got approved! Yay! I'm also on day 4 of my pre-op diet (protein shakes and raw vegetables). It's been pretty rough. I feel like my emotions are literally all over the place-which scares me. How is everyone else handling any emotional struggles around the prep?

    December 2017 Gastric Bypass!

Yay! So nice to see some fellow December gastric bypass people! I am excited but really, really nervous. I also have a pretty extreme pre-op diet from my surgeon-based on my BMI, I have 4 weeks of protein shakes and raw vegetables! So I start that Tuesday. I am new here too, but it looks like there's like a "follow thread" button at the top. I think if you post on the thread, you have automatically "followed" it as well, and will be notified of new posts. Hope that helps!
  16. My surgeon has a very strict pre-surgery diet, consisting of raw vegetables and protein shakes...for 4 weeks, for me! Ugh! I am starting this next week. I only have a few approved options for my protein shakes, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the idea of spending money on a ton of these and hating them. I also can't make them more tolerable by adding fruit or sugar substitutes or whatever. I was wondering if anyone has any experiences with the protein shakes/powders below? Please give me your opinions! Thanks! Orgain Organic Meal Advocare Meal Replacement Bariatric Advantage High Protein Shake Core Power Naturade Total Soy Meal Replacement
  17. Haha, I agree about the sadist comment! The surgeons at my hospital have like, a ridiculously low rate of opening people up unexpectedly during surgery, due to us all having such slim livers! So that's their justification! I'm going to try to power through-good practice for post-surgery, I guess!

    Time off

I'm hoping to take 3 1/2 weeks off. It's really the max I can do, since I'm also trying to get tuition reimbursement for my job when I get back! I hope it will be enough.

    Ready to go!

Keep going! I started the process 4 years ago and got to month 4 or 5 of my 6 month pre-op visits. I then chickened out. I'm starting again-but I wish I had done it 4 years (and 50+ lbs) ago. You can do this!
