  1. Hi everyone! I attended the surgeon seminar with Dr. O'Malley on 12/29 to have surgery with him at the bariatric center at Highland Hospital in Rochester,NY. Has anyone else gone through this program? I have the nutrition seminar tomorrow, my psych eval and physical (at the surgery center) next week, and my 1:1 nutrition appointment already scheduled for Feb 2. I am surprised (but very happy!) how quickly getting the appointments has happened. Can anyone give me some insight on their experience? How long from beginning to surgery for you? Thanks!! 2. Hi, all! I am just beginning my journey to surgery, officially - I attended my surgeon's seminar last week and have my PCP appointment tomorrow for him to sign off on the surgery. Anyway, I have Cigna insurance and I know I meet all the requirements for them to cover me (I just spoke with someone at Cigna). Just have one question and was hoping someone could help. The "physician supervised" weight loss program/diet/nutrition/exercise portion of the requirement -- here's what they say: "Medical Management including active participation within the last 12 months in a weight-management program that is supervised by a MD/PA/NP or RD for a minimum of three consecutive months (>89 days). Must include monthly documentation of the following - weight, current dietary program & physical activity (e.g. exercise program)." In 2015 & 2016 I had a gym membership (I do zumba 3x/week usually) and attempted weight watchers for several months each year, and also did the Atkins diet for awhile. My PCP knows I was doing these things and knows I was trying to lose weight on my own, but he wasn't specifically "supervising" me (as in, I wasn't going to monthly appointments to weigh in or anything). As part of my bariatric program, I will be required to meet with the RD at the bariatric center 3 times (each one month apart) in the upcoming months. So, I guess my question is - whatever I've done in the past won't "count", correct? Since my PCP wasn't seeing me monthly? Will the upcoming appointments I have with the RD be sufficient to satisfy Cigna's requirement? What I'm worried about is that I'll have to do 3 months with my doctor before I can start doing the pre-op bariatric program at the center. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!!
  3. I am at the beginning of my surgery journey (hoping to have bypassby the summer) and just started a page on Instagram to document my journey and follow others on the same path. Are there any other bypass friends out there who have IG pages I could follow? I absolutely love seeing progress and learning more about others' journeys. My IG name is rnyjess. Thanks in advance!!! 7. My surgeon said the choice is mine but did recommend bypass because I have terrible heartburn/reflux, which apparently can get worse with the sleeve. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    CIGNA - supervised diet requirement

Awesome, thank you! Hats what I was hoping for Was your approval pretty smooth with Cigna? I have only dealt with them briefly for my daughter's surgery last year, but she was a toddler and it wasn't something that needed pre-approval. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Can any ladies who have had both a cesarean section when they had their kid(s) and gastric bypass compare recoveries for the two? I have had two c sections (2013 & 2014) and the pain was minimal (with meds) and my recovery was a breeze. (I was very lucky). I'm just wondering if in your opinions bypass was better or worse!
