  1. Soy Proteins are vegetable proteins. The body only absorbs about 30% of the ingested amount. Whey proteins are animal proteins and the body absorbs about 80-90% of them. Quoting the following article on isolates: http://www.bodybuildingforyou.com/health-nutrition/whey-protein-powder-1.htm "Due to the nature of the ion exchange process, the most valuable and health-promoting components are selectively depeleted. Though the Protein content is increased, many of the most important subractions are lost or greatly reduced." So, you can see why soy isolates would have even fewer benefits. You are basically paying a lot for a whole lot of nothing.. except gas pains. This is an excerpt from a NESTA certified training manual for personal trainer certification: "Although considered complete proteins, the human body does not possess the necessary enzymes to break down vegetable proteins and most of it ends up in the colon where bacteria gain access to it. Research has shown that most of the gas once thought to come from the Fiber found in vegetarian sources of protein such as Beans, is now known to be caused by the undigested vegetable protein instead." 2. Welcome to Bandland, LBT and the Gone for Good Club! It's so cool that you are able to do this at a young age with so much ahead of you to look forward to. Glad you joined us, Kristin.
  3. Yay!! *Celebrates big time* So happy to hear youre home and doing well! Welcome to Bandland!!
  4. Awww.. hang in there Darcy. You're doing the right things to get back on track. I hope that fill works wonders for you! *hugs*
  5. All the best wishes for a very happy birthday! You and I are the same age now and you're putting me to shame! You go girl! :clap2: :clap2: :happybday::clap2: :clap2: :happybday: :clap2: :clap2:
  6. Pugmum - I usually eat dinner around 6ish, and am in bed by 10 or 11. Big gap there and that's when I get hungry. If I eat around 6:30 or 7 I do better. I've been eating four meals a day: 10:30, 12:30, 3:30 and 6:30 is a typical day for me. The first meal being Cereal for my Fiber, so it doesn't last long. My doctor wants me eating 3 meals a day, but I swear I don't know how I'd get enough calories. If you really can't stand it, and have to eat after 7.. try sugar free Jello. It's filling enough to see you through to bedtime, yet turns to liquid so doesn't hang around long. Maggie - Welcome to the club and thank you for your story! I admire the work you are doing but I can sure see how stressful it would be. My story of weight loss/gain is similar to yours. Feels good to finally have a hold of something that gives that control, doesn't it? Joe - Welcome to you too! Dawg and I did Atkins a few years back. It worked great for the first month or two but then stalled on us. And my cholesterol was through the roof. I'm feeling much better these days, and I'm guessing you are too. I'll get you two on the members list today. HeatherGurl - I just wanted to thank you for starting this group. Your idea is becoming a reality and I for one am really enjoying it. You need to speak up more though. I miss ya gurl! Everyone - I would really like to emphasize the fact that this is not "MY" thread. I keep the stats up for Heather because she can only get here during work hours. I am a very social person, love to talk to anyone and everyone, and (as many of you already know) I typically have something to say about everything. *grins* Please, please.. all of you remember that this club is YOURS, not mine, not Heather's. Jump in and comment, welcome new folks, share ideas about weight loss and the club, and take ownership. That's why we started the GFG Club! Tomorrow is weigh-in day for those who enjoy tracking their weight. I hope everyone is having a good week and that we see more exciting results like last week. Tricia and I have decided we won't be needing those tissues this week. :clap2: Please post tomorrow's weigh-in like this: C 261 (-46 lbs total, -4 this week)
  7. Well, I've only been at this for a few months now, but I seem to be losing at a steady rate so I'll chime in. I could pick out several things from each post so far. I eat between 800 - 1,000 calories per day. Only once did I manage to reach 1,200 and that's because I was eating beef instead of fish or chicken. I make sure to eat between 60 - 100 grams of Protein per day. I drink at least 64oz of Water. I weigh once a week, sometimes twice. But I'm trying to break the scale addiction. I try to walk on the treadmill or outside everyday.. 1/2 mile is my goal. Sometimes I can do more. I've been sedintary for a long time. We've joined a gym and will be going a few nights a week to swim or use the machines. We have no junk food in the house. I have a variety of foods that I enjoy, that are band friendly, and are high in protein. I keep these on hand at home so I don't have to think too hard about what I'm going to be eating each day. My shopping lists are simple. I don't want to have to think about food any more than I have to. When I go out to eat, I know exactly what I'm going to order and I do not look at the menu. With the exception of cottage cheese and potatoes.. I live by the saying, "If its white, it's not right". Bread, sugars, pastas, etc. These are all starchy, high carb, processed foods that provide nothing for my body in the way of nutrition. However, they do an excellent job of making me fat. So I've removed them from my life. I do not eat after 7pm, unless it's the weekend and I know I'm going to be up late. But even then, never after 9pm. I'm still trying to get myself to stop eating when I know I should. For some reason I keep wanting to clean my bowl. Actually, as I type this I've had a revelation. The meals I have the most problems with are the ones I eat in larger bowls. Most of my meals are eaten in 1 cup size bowls, but at dinner I use a Cereal bowl for my fish or chicken and veggies. By golly, Im going to start using the smaller bowls at dinner too! I can always go back and get more if I need it, right?
  8. *laughs* Brenda, I LOVE your exercising guys! Mind if I steal one of them? I haven't seen an exercise forum. I think maybe people are just starting exercise threads in the general discussion or lounge forums. I think. Hm.. *goes to look*
  9. That's what I was thinking. Surely there's a cheaper version of this kind of thing.. somewhere, wouldn't ya think?
  10. Jonothan, I can only imagine the disappointment you're feeling right now. I mean, you've been feeling it for a while but tomorrow's the finality of it all, right? Did you decide not to have any other form of WLS done then? Or are you waiting to decide? If you posted the answer to that on your other thread, I apologize. I'm really trying to keep up with everyone, but its not always easy. I wish you the best tomorrow. I would think the removal would be much easier than the installation. I'll be hoping for a quick recovery for you.
  11. Pugmum - It's good to see ya back around again. I've really been hit with nighttime hunger lately. I just keep drinking water and assuring myself that I can eat when I get up. So far, so good but I can really relate. Daily goals update: The only thing I did that was on my list were things I could do sitting down. I've been in such a slump today.. I think I'm coming down with something. Bleh. Good thing is, weigh-in is going to rock this week. I've really made up for last week. *grins*
  12. Hi Jenny, welcome to LBT. This is a great place to do research. You'll find everything from facts to opinions here. You seem to be doing alright finding your way around so far. Give a shout if you have any questions. And Mystjin, check out this thread for abbreviation helps: http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=7959
  13. Shawn, I'm really glad to hear everything looked good with the bloodwork but you're right. That's good and bad news because you're still left with the unanswered question, "Why am I tired?" Have you tried taking a nap? (sorry, couldn't resist) John had a good point about calories. Do you know how much you're eating per day? And how active are you? Did your doctor go over all those questions with you?
  14. Papillon - youre posting on the wrong thread. The one with all our weight loss is called the Gone for Good Club. Click on this link below to get there: http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=15503
  15. Anyone in or around Boise coming to the support group meeting tomorrow night (Tues, the 14th)? Dawg and I will be there, and this time we do have the right night! LOL For anyone interested, it's held in that white, domed, tent looking thing in St. Al's parking lot behind the hospital. You can see it from the connector as you drive by. If you are coming from Emerald, turn north on Hartman. You can't miss the tent. There are no bathrooms inside, you have to go to the building nearby. The meeting is from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. We sure would love to meet some Idahoans!
  16. Randy.. do you need a hug? *offers a big hug*
  17. Wow, this is awesome! I'm watching with great interest. Ok finished watching it. It's about an hour long and everyone who is interested in the band should watch it. They present a lot of information about the band, the pre and post op diets, they show how fills are done, and you get to watch the surgery via laproscopic cameras. Very cool. The video is about an hour long. Tricia, ya wimp. *laughs* I liked the part where they were stuffing their fingers and hands into the holes. Very cool. *grins*
  18. I have a suggestion. Relax. Pick one thing that you can give up that will help you. If you drink a lot of pop, perhaps that would be a good place to start. Keep in mind that you are already on your journey. Perhaps it will help you be more excited about where you're going rather than being stressed about where you are. Chances are, the doc will put you on a pre-op diet that will help you drop a good chunk of weight in a few weeks time. Your goal right now should be to relax, make sensible choices, get some exercise in.. perhaps walk a bit, and don't gain more weight to take off later. The better shape you're in when you have your surgery, the quicker you'll recover. Start researching the types of foods you'll be eating after you're banded. And maybe try to incorporate some of them in your food choices now. You'll be fine. I think we panic about the idea of stepping through the doors of deprivation, so we start eating everything we can before its taken away. It's really not like that at all. So really, relax and get happy about the fact that you are on your way!
  19. Holy cow batman! That's wonderful! Grats Jean! Onward and um.. downward! LOL
  20. ROFL!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
  21. Leener.. I've been thinking about you all day. Can't wait to hear from you! MiniMe and Kat1215 were being banded today as well. Three newbie bandsters! Yay!
  22. Diane - call them up and ask them if they'd be willing to go see Dr Phil with you. Tell them you'll pay the way if they'll accept whatever advice he has to give. *chuckles* Or, better yet, just ignore them and leave them with their own struggles while you and your hubby move forward and enjoy the upcoming summer with your kids. Just smile and tell the kids that gradma and grandpa are welcome to be with the family when they learn how to behave. *grins* Don't let them rob you of your joy!
  23. You're very welcome. I'm glad it helped. *big smile*
  24. You know, it just pisses me off when a guy has a nicer ass and legs than me! LOL Leave it big Kimmy.. it adds to the affect. *grins*
