    Dr Fitzer Reston

Sounds like the same amount of pain I was in with this surgery and with the same Dr. I does get better in time and for me pain meds didn't do anything to help but in a couple days it does get better.

    Anyone in VA?

@simhr703 I have lost 60 pounds so far. The last week I haven't been too strict with what I have been eating I started at 300 and now 240 and my goal weight is about 180 so I am half way. What is your weight loss so far? I have noticed at times it comes off quickly but I really wouldn't worry as long as your losing a couple pounds a week you should be fine depending on your starting weight. How much can you eat?

I feel the same as you about the quantity I sometimes I can eat. Really the only time I know I have had RNY is when I try and drink water and can't drink that fast anymore. I am 6 weeks out and I can pretty much eat whatever I want. I stay with high protein turkey chicken deli meats egg whites and vegetables mostly, more of healthy diet. I do find it easier to stick to this diet now than before pretty much I an only attribute it to the RNY. When I first started eating "normal" food I would see what it would take to get full and I realized for me the full feeling is different than before. Its more of an uncomfortable feeling now but maybe for others it is different. I know I can eat more than a few ounces which on Thanksgiving I proved that but never got that super full feeling like before. I work out twice a day and my weight loss has been a steady 4-5 pounds a week. I am sure it will slow down but I feel great being almost 50 pounds down in 6 weeks.

    Dr Fitzer Reston

I had my surgery at Reston hospital on October 19th. I am glad to hear your experience was a lot better than mine and you had great care, I'm sure that helped you feel a lot better about your surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Did I actually have surgery?

I felt the same like I didn't have surgery, I am 19 days out and sometimes I can eat a can of tuna and at times only half. What I was told that it is the amount of time I am taking to eat something will determine the amount I can consume. So if I take bigger bites and a shorter amount of time between each bite I will be able to eat less. I have no problems eating eggs or anything on my diet I just have to take small bites and slow down.

    Pain almost 4 months out.

When I had my followup I asked about what a hernia would feel like at one of incision points and she said basically it feels like a sharp pain when moving or if picking up something. Not sure if it is the same since you are 4 months out.

    Dr Fitzer Reston

I had my surgery with Dr Fitzer on October 19th. I wasn't super impressed honestly. The surgery went well but the communication after surgery was very poor including my followup. Obviously this only my opinion but I had two meetings with Dr Fitzer prior to surgery. 1 in April for about 30 minutes where I asked questions from the online video seminar and another a few minutes before surgery. I haven't seen him since my surgery nor a call and even the postop follow up was with his nurse not him. My wife was not called when I was out of surgery in fact I called her to let her know I was doing well. Pain right after surgery was a lot but while in the recovery room the nurse there helped in reducing the pain but one you are sent to your own hospital you may as well take tylenol because what I got was useless I think it was oxycodone every three hours but the nurse only came around whenever they wanted basically between 3:30 - 4 hours. I walked around the hospital a few hours after surgery but the equipment that monitors your heart and vitals was not working correctly and kept reporting my heartbeat at close to 200 bpm. The nurse checked my heart rate and it was maybe around 90 when walking, I asked for a working monitor but never got one. Then another option was to have Dr Fitzer let me walk when the monitor was malfunctioning but no one could get him to reply. All in all I left the hospital less than 24 hours after surgery on no pain meds and just made the best of it. The pain does suck but I felt the recovery was better done at home with my family than in a hospital that didn't help as much as I had hoped. I just looked at the charges and I would think for over $60k billed it would have been a better experience. I really hope your recovery goes better and you have a great experience.
