I'm halfway through my clear liquid diet & I have stuck to it religiously (protein/vitamins/no solid food/liquid goals) I've been feeling pretty good (once I got past day 3) BUT this morning I woke up feeling so drained & lifeless. I'm not even hungry just dragging! I still have a week to go! Is this normal??? Have others experienced this? I'm anxious about the surgery next week too... My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday (yikes!!)and I have been on my liquid diet for almost a week now. My 2 eldest boys who are ages 9 & 5, have noticed that I haven't been eating food and have been asking a lot of questions as to why. Today at lunch I decided to give them some warning about the upcoming surgery & they asked a million questions - as kids do! I am pretty upfront with people about my struggles and plans to get surgery (if they ask why) but I absolutely was unprepared and struggled to tell my kids the truth. I'm not sure that they are old enough to process what weight loss surgery means, and I'm a tiny bit worried that my 5 year old might innocently start suggesting it overweight people we know (he is very helpful like that!). I settled on telling them that I am getting my stomach fixed because it's not really helping me be healthy (which is basically true!). They had to be at the hospital with my husband when I had my EGD done & the surgery is at the same hospital so I was able to call on that to make it a bit less scary for them. I'm curious to know how other people explained the surgery to younger kids, if at all? And how kids reacted after the surgery? Any opinions or thoughts welcome! It's good to hear you are feeling better! My surgery is next week and I'm so nervous & unsure of how I will cope with the pain post-surgery. This part had me frazzled in the beginning too! I didn't really have "proof"either, so I just had to get my medical records from the past 2 years (my surgery is next week, so I needed 2015 and 2014) where I had my weight recorded. Everytime I go to my PCP they weigh me so that's all they needed. For 2014 I didn't have a PCP but I had couple of visits with an OBGYN doctor & they had also weighed me for those visits so I had those records sent to my surgeon too. I wonder why they would cancel they surgery if your BMI drops below 35? Did they give you a reason? My surgeon wanted me to lose as much weight as possible before surgery. I had a BMI of 40 when I started the medically supervised weightloss and as of this morning my BMI is 32 - my surgery is next week. I'm also lower bmi (33) but I have to do the full 2 weeks of liquids only but I can have broth at least! That's unlucky that you caught 2 birthdays and a food based event during this time!! I have the same insurance & I just had to weigh in once a month (didn't matter what day of the month) but had to lose weight at each appointment for 6 months. I had my surgery approved, but it's "shared responsibility" - so UHC will cover 80% of the surgery. On the day of my surgery (21st September) I have to pay the remainder which is going to be around $2600. This is for the gastric sleeve. No one told me about the payment even after my surgery was approved - I had to make 100 phone calls to find out for sure and then 100 more to get the amount I need to pay the day of surgery. It didn't even cross my mind that I would be taken back into surgery - yikes! I was thinking a bit too optimistically. My surgeon has talked a lot about having to walk around after surgery, I just didn't want to do that trying to wrestle a hospital gown closed, but an extra one would solve that. Thank you It's probably a silly question, but how long after you woke up from surgery were you allowed to change into your own clothes/nightgown? Apologies if this has already been covered (I'm sure it has) but I am trying to figure out exactly what I should take with me to the hospital? I'm getting gastric sleeve surgery on 21st September 2016. Would love to hear what pre-op and especially post-op people pack/packed in their bags? Was there anything you packed but didn't really need? Is there anything you wished you had with you but didn't think to take? Looking forward to getting some ideas!
