Hypothyroid
I have hypothyroidism also. I was just banded on 3/4. So far I have lost 19 pounds combined with the pre-surgery diet and in my first 2 weeks. I have been able to come off my blood pressure medicine, diabetes medicine and my acid reflux medicine. Sorry to say still taking the synthroid and 300mcg at that. My family doctor said my thyroid should improve but I will most likely have to take some dose of synthroid for the rest of my life. Hypothyroidism is not one of the things that the lapband has been known to totally cure.... just help it out a little! I can live with that. But to answer your question I have been very successful with weight loss so far and I do not have any restriction in my band yet. My first fill is 3/31. I have been sticking to about 800 calories per day or so. Just not that hungry. Hope this helps.

Weight Gain
I know exactly how you feel. I am not up any weight. But I lost 19 pounds very quickly and I now I am stuck. I have been back on regular foods for about a week now. I am just trying to remain positive and stick with this. I know this is a long term thing. Remember it's not uncommon to not use any weight in the first month before you have a fill.

Incision burning pain!? HELP!
Flowergurl - I feel your pain. I was banded last Tue 3/4 and I am just now getting back to full speed. I was so set back, thought I would be back at work by Monday. No way! This has been much worse than I thought it would be. I have only driven once since last Tuesday and it was very uncomfortable. The incision at my port is still very uncomfortable and still a little swollen. Cant even stand to have my pants buttoned yet. The only good thing is my doctor gave me the go ahead to go back to regular foods except bread, pasta, rice, etc. Said he knows I will not be able to tolerate those. The last few days I have at least gotten to eat some real food and I think that is what is making me feel stronger. Hang in there! The end result will so be worth it!!

Dayton Ohio--Dr Teel/McGuire Self Pay?
I was just banded on 3/4/08 by Dr. Teel at MVH. He is a great doctor. I have really liked him so far. No complaints. Not sure of the cost for self pay. My insurance covered mine and my portion was $1400 so I am assuming somewhere around $14,000. I went for my 1 week post op check up today and everything is good. Still not driving too well or being able to sit for hours at a desk. He gave me clearance to start the mushy stage of foods. Pretty much eating whatever I want except pasta, bread and fried stuff. In my opinion I would recommend him. Not to mention he's young and not to bad to look at either. I felt like he could relate more to me cause he is my age. He requires a 2 week pre op diet but nothiing liquid. Just a low calorie diet consisting of 2 small meals and a liquid breakfast. Wasnt bad at all. I lost like 9 pounds on the pre op diet. I have lost a total of 15 now. Anything else you would like to know I would be happy to share. Good luck!

1 week post-op: how many lbs lost?
I am exactly one week post op and lost 7 pounds this week. My weight went up the first few days after surgery too. Dont worry about it! It will come back down. I went to the surgeon this morning and got clearance to move onto mushy foods. Had shaved chicken and cottage cheese for lunch and it tasted like filet mignon!! My hunger pains have gone away! Yeah! The first few days were really bad. Almost regretted doing this. Now that the scale is moving down and I am not so starved I know I have made the right choice. I am now down a total of 15 pounds since starting the pre op diet.

Uncomfortable after surgery
Mine is much better today. Seemed to get much better after I got out and got some movement today. The swollen spot is probably your port. You probably should consult your surgeon.

Uncomfortable after surgery
I was banded on 3/4. Pain is pretty much gone, but I have this weird feeling like something is jabbing me under the rib when I sit down. The only way to get comfortable is to lie down. Was wondering if anybody else has experienced this or anything similar?
