  1. I'm scheduled for surgery on 12/19 and I've found these posts (and the subsequent encouragement by the community) invaluable during my prep. I'm expecting to feel miserable emotionally and physically and have prepared myself and my support team (husband, family, friends, etc) to just keep telling me that feeling terrible is normal and I can get through it. Also I know that if I have complications or just normal emotional freak outs, I can come here and the community understands and will hold my hand. These posts are great and no one should feel bad about making them.
  2. My surgeon suggested that if I had a problem with refined sugars (like candy), the bypass may be more successful because it gives you more feedback if you eat the wrong types of foods (through dumping). If your problem is just volume (that's my problem) then the sleeve will help you learn to control that without the intestine changes (that make a lot of people, including myself, nervous)
  3. I'm scheduled for surgery on 12/19. My family is putting Christmas off until 12/31 (not just for me, but so my sister can travel to her in-laws for the actual holiday). The plan is for everyone to come over to our house for an hour or two for gift exchange early, then go over to my mom's (15 minute drive) for the meal. That way I don't have to smell or see the feast! I imagine after having the kids and chaos at my house I'll be ready for a nap, and my husband can join my family for dinner. My family is very supportive, but I'm also fortunate because we're all local.
  4. I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea 3 years ago, and use my cpap faithfully (I had daily migraines that have disappeared with cpap). I was told that I would go through an adjustment period and then start to have more energy and no longer be so sleepy during the day. That never happened, so this spring I did some more sleep studies and the doctor says my sleep apnea is under control. He diagnosed me with idiopathic hypersomnia (medical for "you sleep a lot and I don't know why"). I manage the hypersomnia with modafinil (a stimulant) and caffeine. I'm hoping that losing weight with the sleeve will give me more energy so I don't need to sleep as much, but right now I'm trying to figure out how to get through the pre-op diet and immediate post op period when caffeine isn't allowed. My current routine is 0530a 100mg modafinil 0700-1000 40 oz of coffee 1200 100mg modafinil 200p 40 mg caffeine (penguin mint) 400p 40 mg caffeine (penguin mint) I'm meeting with the surgeon on 12/6 and will ask if modafinil is allowed post surgery, but do any of you have hypersomnia? How have you stayed awake without caffeine?
