  1. Holy sh!t, you're right. I just looked at the wrapper again and there it is: 21g of sugar. You wouldn't think it, given how utterly awful it tastes, but there it is in black & white. Sure, maybe from a nutritional standpoint, the Clif bars are just as awful as their taste. However, every protein shake I've attempted thus far has engaged my gag reflex and I'd like to hit my protein quota (since I've been having a hard time with it).
  2. Hi, sorry for not paying attention to this forum. I'm a 30 year old bi trans lady and I had my sleeve done on August 29th.
  3. I'm trying some Clif protein bars, because they have 20 grams of protein. Today, I tried the chocolate "flavoured" bar and tomorrow, I'll try the other two flavours and review them over on this thread. Spoiler alert: I don't have much hope of any of these tasting even remotely decent.
  4. So, as someone who has been told I need to consume 85 g of protein after the surgery, hitting that number is tough. But, when I saw that Amazon was selling boxes of Clif bars that have 20 g of protein per serving, I knew I had to give it a go (couldn't be worse than protein shakes, right?). So, tonight while I was at the grocery store, I bought one of the chocolate flavoured protein bars, one of the chocolate peanut butter protein bars and a box (because they weren't selling them in singles) of Chocolate Mint protein bars. Tonight, I tried the chocolate protein bars and I'll say... it's edible...ish. I mean, I could choke it down but I'm literally counting the seconds until I can drink something, as the taste is AWFUL. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be lingering in my mouth like Isopure or Carnation Instant Breakfast, but it isn't good. I mean, it's not so bad that it's making my gag reflex kick in, but it is horrible. Tomorrow, I'll review the other two flavours and let you know if they're any better.
  5. Trust me, I know the feeling. I'm seeing everyone here (who was at, or roughly around, my starting weight) talk about how they've lost 60 or so pounds and I'm here at 34 pounds lost in 2 months. While I know that rationally, 34 pounds is a good number to have lost, I'm still frustrated, going HOW LONG DOES THIS TAKE?!? ... Oh, and I have an intro pilates class at a new pilates studio in Fort Collins tomorrow, which is pretty close to my new work place... and my surgeon's office.
  6. Well, the particular surgeon I'm looking at is for cosmetic surgery that is only tangentially related to my having bariatric surgery. I'm looking at getting facial feminization surgery and the guy whose before & after photos look the best to me is Dr. Zukowski in Wilmette, Illinois (the Chicago area). The only two barriers to having it are: Money. It's hella expensive. My quote is for $30,500... and that's just the surgery! I still have to factor in hotel and airfare. Fortunately, I just got a new job that will help pay that cost down a lot faster than the one I'm leaving, but Getting (close) to my goal weight. Now, since I haven't been skinny in my adult life, I am only basing my goal weight based on the midpoint of healthy weights based on my height, age and gender. But based on my projections, I should have it next September or October.
  7. Also, forgive any spelling mistakes. I just switched to Firefox from Chrome and for some reason, it only has the French spellcheck dictionary and not the English one as well.
  8. Well, my surgeon says (and I know different surgeons say different things, so YMMV) that because having had gastric sleeves makes us more likely to have a bleeding ulcer and that since NSAIDs are also likely to cause bleeding ulcers, that the risk is too high in taking NSAIDs and that it's best to take pain relievers that aren't NSAIDs, like Tylenol.
  9. Yeah, true. Is there anything they'd use in surgery that could be a NSAID? I mean, I looked it up and Oxycodone is not a NSAID but that's what I'd likely get once I leave the surgery centre, not while I'm under anaesthesia.
  10. Howdy everyone, So, I'm planning to have cosmetic surgery once I get to my goal weight (or once I get close to it) and I'm wondering if I should let my surgeon know that I can't have NSAIDs because I had the sleeve, or if I tell him I have had the sleeve, that he should already know (because he is a surgeon, after all)? Just curious.
  11. I know the feeling. I had a flight between Denver, Atlanta, and Tampa on Southwest for an OWL training for my church and I needed a seatbelt extender for the first time in my life. But yeah, now I'm at 130 kg and I'm officially down 10% of my total body weight and 18.4% on my way to my estimated goal weight (65 kg). Also, my clothes aren't fitting loose yet but since my weight is still going down, I am willing to smile at that.
  12. Today, I was phone banking with a few people from the Green Party and it was a potluck event. I had some (vegan) meat & spaghetti and even though I got (what I thought was) a small amount of pasta but I couldn't even eat a quarter of that. But at least one of the other volunteers was happy to eat what I couldn't.
  13. So, after converting my weight loss today into pounds, I noticed I just hit the 30 pounds lost mark!
  14. You could link to it instead of posting a tiny screenshot from your phone.
  15. I never got a brace from my podiatrist.
  16. We had the surgery on the same day and it's roughly 28 lbs for me, but I have a lot more to lose (my starting weight was 319 and my goal weight is roughly 165).
  17. I've been working on the same chicken caesar salad for since I got it for last night's dinner. I had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner today too.
  18. Well, I weighed in this morning and so far, I've lost another 0,8 kg. Yesterday, though, I went down to Denver to see a friend and before I left, she gave me a ziploc bag full of cookies and a ziploc bag full of candy. Naturally, those things went into the trash once I got home.
  19. I'm down 11,5 kg (25 lbs) since the surgery and 16,5 kg (35 lbs) since going on the pre-op diet. While it is going slower than I would like, I must say, I like the trend of my weight going DOWN rather than up.
  20. I wish I were that lucky. My weight loss since the day of surgery is 12,2 kg (or 26,8 lbs). Don't get me wrong, that's somewhat good (it *is* a fifth or sixth of what they ARE expecting me to lose total), but it feels quite slow given what everyone else here is reporting.
  21. Yeah, having had my surgery the day after the merger (including spending the night before in Fort Collins, so I could get to the surgeon's office in time), I haven't been in to see the new Whole Foods and their pricing structure. I'm thinking about going the next time I go grocery shopping just to see how the prices are shaking out.
  22. I wish that were true, but every time I phone my surgeon's office, I get this one nurse who is anything but helpful. She refuses to answer my questions. It drives me up the wall.
  23. Well, yeah because our world isn't all sunshine and rainbows blown up your butt 24/7/365. ESPECIALLY in a capitalist system, there is going to be suffering and heartache.
  24. I think on Tuesday, I'll be seven weeks out, though I just went in for my six-week check on Friday the 13th. I don't know if my sleep apnea has been abated or not, but I am wondering when I should go in for another sleep study to check on that. My three-month check is at the end of November (as well it should be, my surgery was at the end of August) and I'm worried about hitting my target, as they say that I should be down 60 lbs (or 27,2 kg) at that point. If I lose at my current rate, I should be down 23,6 kg, which isn't nothing but is a few kilos shy of that target. I'm week 6, I think I'm out of the woods for my second stall (that does get so frustrating) and I'm down 11.8 kg, personally. I'm curious though, what was your starting point? My podiatrist recommended New Balance shoes for me, but I might ask her next time I see her about a foot brace. Maybe that might help, my surgeon DID say at my six-week check on Friday that I might be able to hit the 60-70% of total weight loss at six months instead of twelve months if I exercise. I imagine my results would be better if my form could improve.
  25. The reason why I'm hoping so much that my plantar fasciitis abates is because my ability to exercise is hindered by the sharp pain in my arches (or, more specifically, my plantar fascia). My last GP thought the problem was exacerbated by an edema in my legs which is exacerbated by... sleep apnea. So hopefully, the sleep apnea will abate, the edema will abate and I can have no pain in my arches which means... I can do hot yoga again! And I hope it'll be soon, because sometimes, I watch workout instruction vids and try to replicate them at Planet Fitness and I just can't do it on my own. I need a class with an instructor and a bunch of other people so I can see how to improve what I'm doing.
