55 Yr old Banded Apr 23rd
Thanks Tadaa, You look like you are more experienced at this tho I didn't see your band date you've lost a good amount of weight. How does this work from now until I get my first fill on 5/30th? I am banded with no restriction. So my stomach has been made smaller from the band but not tightened enough to be too restricted? I haven't eaten more than a half cup of food at any sitting and blessed that I really haven't been hungry. Can you help me to understand where I am at exactly? Thanks Yvonne:confused_smile:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Hi All and thanks for all the welcomes and best wishes. Saw the Dr today and he was happy with my progress (10 lbs since op on 4/23rd and 25 total now). He has moved me to diet of mushies for next 2 weeks and then to soft foods the following 2 weeks. I'm so excited to have more options to eat. My first fill is not until May 30th. He said to start working out slowly and build up. I had broken my right foot on Feb 18th so I am still healing from that too and I didn't tell him about that because I didn't want that to affect my having surgery. I took off my boot from the Orthopedist and wore my tennis shoes, walking very delicately, when I went in to see him twice before surgery and told him I had a small turn of the ankle which was healing fast..... He did say, "Well you have to be mobile to be able to have the surgery" and I told him that I was up and about and on my eliptical so it didn't become an issue. I am up to 15 minutes on the eliptical as regular walking is still too slow and probably not helping much excercise wise and want to work that out to more but I can't do my health rider (which is like a rower) yet because that pulls on my abdominals. I did have questions on what is NSV and SV and PB? Gotta get up on my lapbandonics.... Its a happy day for me:thumbup:. Have a great weekend everyone. Yvonne

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
I grew up and live in the San Francisco Bay area, now near the airport. I've been overweight for 30 yrs, have 3 kids, & 4 grandkids and live with my boyfriend of 1 1/2 yrs. I am an administrator for a computer training company in SF which makes my blindness to finding you even more hilarious. I had been thinking of gastric bypass surgery for years but stopped because an aunt died several days after having gastric bypass in 2001. I now realize that she was in VERY bad health being 4'11" and 397. Then I've had a few friends have it over last few years and they were doing pretty good so I started thinking of it again. As soon as I read about lapband in Jan, it was like an epiphany and I just knew that this would be the final help I need to get my weight down to a healthy level. I'm hoping that will happen and actually pretty surprised at the 25 lbs I've lost since Jan 08. 15 lbs pre-surgery and 10 more in the last 8 days.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Hi All, I sure feel dumb, I've been on this site since Jan 08 when I started my journey towards being banded. I kept looking in the Fifties group but hadn't been seeing that many new threads and I was thinking there aren't that many of us on here.....Until today when I finally looked under the "Hey 50 & over gang....." and checked in and here you all are. Thank God. I've spent most of today reading all back posts for the month of April so I feel like I know alot of you. I was banded Apr 23rd so its been 8 days now. Had a terrible time with pain meds so I just used Tylenol. I am still fairly sore but trying to move around as much as possible. One new thing, I had a bit of milk today for the first time and I'm feeling terrible shortly after drinking it. My stomach is feeling painful. I use to be big time milk drinker but now wondering if I will be able to. I go for my post op appt tommorrow morning. Nice to meet you all and I"ll be on here chatting more often. Yvonne

Check out Protein shakes before surgery
Before I had surgery I was checking out as many protein shakes as I could since I knew they would be a big staple after surgery and I wanted to make sure I liked what I decided on not just have to endure them. I use the Medifast 55 shakes (these are for women and the Medifast 70 shakes are for men) which I like 10 times more than the Unjury and others. They just don't taste medicinal and they have several flavors, Chocolate, Strawberry, Banana, Vanilla, Orange Creme and Mocha (which can be heated like a hot chocolate). I'm a picky eater and these honestly just taste like real good flavored shakes. They have 15 grams protein and I add in a scoop of powdered protein to add another 7 grams. 2 or 3 of these and you have most of your protein in for the day. I also added scoops of powdered protein to cream soups like Tomato or Cream of Chicken and to sugar free puddings. It doesn't change the taste at all. You can go to: Medifast | Shop Medifast I'm telling you, you won't be sorry. Good luck to you all Yvonne

55 Yr old Banded Apr 23rd
I was banded on Wed 4/23rd at about 9:45am, and I was in my room by 1pm. I had a bad time with the pain meds the first day & nite making me nauseous and after trying several different types, I said forget it and just have been on Tylenol which doesn't do much. That first day was pretty tough, I could not swallow anything per Dr's orders and could only swish water in my mouth and then spit it out. My throat hurt from the dryness of my mouth and I wanted to down my cherry flavored chap stick. I would have killed for some ice chips like others have had but it was taboo with my Dr. The next morning finally came after a long nite, and the stuff you have to drink so they can xray you and make sure there are no leaks was pretty horrific and almost made me puke but knowing once I got thru with that I could down some liquids, finally, I made sure I kept it down. My first meal of broth, juice, & jello was the best thing since sliced bread..... Went home about 1pm and just took it easy. The pain from the surgery is not that bad but I get migraines and for some reason had 3 in those first 2 days but this too had past. Feeling ok somewhat at this time and I am on stage 2 diet and had some thin Cream of Wheat with added protein and splenda, oh it tasted so good. Had about 10 baby spoon fulls and was full.....I got one of those Magic Bullets which makes blending everything (since I am adding protein to all) really easy. I"ve lost 6 lbs since surgery 5 long days ago. Its true that it all gets easier every day that passes. Maybe its my age but I am glad that I am off work for a month, I just can't fathom having to be getting up and doing all that while going thru all this. So I salute all of you who are having to do that. I go to the Dr's on May 2nd for my post op. I am glad I did this and would do it again. Take care all. Yvonne

Can't take any pain meds
I am allergic to morphine and codeine and have always been really sensitive to all pain meds. I knew this going in as I have had 3 ceasarreans and gall bladder removal. But I haven't had any surgery since 1985 so I was hoping they had come up with something by now. Anyway, I am not sure what is triggering the migraines but they have stopped for now as the Maxalt really works good for me. They tried several anti-nausea meds also with no success. So after 18 hours of nausea, I thought it best to just get off everything and just go with Tylenol, which helps somewhat. Every day I"m doing better, almost finished with day 3 post op.

Can't take any pain meds
Hi all, I was banded on Wed 4/23rd, everything went quickly and I was in my room recovering by 1pm. I had a bad time with the pain meds making me nauseous and after trying several different types, I said forget it and just have been on Tylenol. The stuff you have to drink so they can xray you and make sure there are no leaks was pretty horrific and almost made me puke. Came home on the 24th and just took it easy. The pain from the surgery is not that bad but I get migraines and for some reason had 3 in the last 2 days so I am dealing with that too. Feeling ok at this time and I am on stage 2 diet already as of today and had some thin Cream of Wheat, oh it tasted so good. Had about 10 baby spoon fulls and was full..... I don't want to get on the scale until I go to the Dr's on May 2nd for my post op. I am glad I did this and would do it again. Take care all. Yvonne:thumbup:

It's Done, Banded At LAST
Hi all, I was banded on Wed 4/23rd, everything went quickly and I was in my room recovering by 1pm. I had a bad time with the pain meds making me nauseous and after trying several different types, I said forget it and just have been on Tylenol. The stuff you have to drink so they can xray you and make sure there are no leaks was pretty horrific and almost made me puke. Came home yesterday and just took it easy. The pain from the surgery is not that bad like John says below. I get migraines and for some reason had 3 in the last 2 days so I am dealing with that too. Feeling ok at this time and I am on stage 2 diet already as of today and had some thin Cream of Wheat, oh it tasted so good. Had about 10 baby spoon fulls and was full..... I've messed up big time, will I still have surgery
My surgery date is Wed, Apr 23rd. I went to my last pre-op appt to see my surgeon on the 16th and he was really happy with my weight loss of 24 lbs. I have worked so damn hard to lose that. Well, since the 16th, I went to a birthday party (Fri nite), a wedding (Sat)and my hubby took me to my last dinner tonite (Sun). I just weighed myself and gained 10 lbs back!!!! I'm so upset and angry at myself that I will show up to the hospital Wed the 24th and the Dr will refuse to do the surgery. Has anyone been refused the day of their surgery for this reason? I'm doing nothing but clear liquids Mon and Tues, so wish me luck and a few prayers wouldn't hurt....

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Hi there, I just copied and pasted and it worked Take care Yvonne

Cotton MOUTH!!
some Listerine strips? They dissolve in your mouth. Or some Extra gum, no calories, sugarless, good taste and you chew..... Good luck girl, I get banded on the 23rd so I will probably be in the same boat. :tongue_smilie: yvonneb3

Anyone using Thinner Future? (NorCal)
I've been seeing him for 3 months now and I really like him. I've talked to other patients in the waiting room of his office in Burlingame and I hear nothing but good things from everyone. My surgery is next week and I'll be adding in my updates. Good luck with everything! Yvonne:thumbup:

Forgot to mention I take Alli
My surgery date is April 23rd and I just realized that I have still been taking Alli (I am almost finished with the container) and didn't mention it to my Dr. Has anyone discussed this with their Dr? Does it make a difference?
