I received the lapband in 2008 and lost about 60 pounds or more.  When I moved several years later, I found a surgeon to do my fills...mistake.  He completed the fill without imaging or x-ray in 2011.  I began to become ill with reflux again gradually, sleep apnea is back, and I have gained all 60 pounds back and I am 20 pounds shy of where I started before I received the band.  Now, I have asthma that is stopping me from doing the same things I used to do.  I saw Dr. Davis once I got insurance in January of 2015.  He discovered some horrible things.  Yes, the band is intact, but the fill that another physician in Houston gave me caused the band to be too tight; as a result, the band moved up my esophagus.  That movement has caused destruction to my esophagus in the form of erosion and permanent dilation (wider) esophagus.  I aspirate and have constant nausea but can't regurgitate and get it over with.  My hunger pains hurt worse than the gas in my muscles.  I have a new pouch that grew over the band.

At first removing the band for a revision did not scare me, but a revision to a bypass scares the hell out of me.  I have great family support from my husband and my parents...check.  But my surgeon cannot tell me how much weight I will stand to lose as everyone is different.  I am at 200 pounds now, but it is difficult to tell because I am very curvy.  I need to know how to control the weight once I hit 60-70 pounds lost.  In addition, my husband and I would like to have children.  The surgeon says 18 months after surgery but I know several women that have gotten pregnant not even months after the surgery due to the malabsorption.  What is the difficultly of maintaining a healthy pregnancy after the bypass? What harm I am doing if I get pregnant 3-6 months after surgery?

Thank you to anyone that can share a positive story.  So far all the blogs on this website have been positive, but I don't want to be unrealistic, but on the other hand I need to hear what has made the positive stories so positive so I can have a positive story to help the next person as well. jb
