  1. Best of luck to @@LisaMergs and @@maggie5539 on their surgeries today!
  2. Good luck today @@cendella170
  3. @@SkinnyVLS - is this just for sleevers?
  4. Me too! Good luck! @@mel2k16 Mayo apparently doesn't do a huge liquid diet - it's only 2-3 days prior for...cleaning things out and such. I feel for everyone on the 1-2 week diets. You can do it! It'll be here before you know it. @@Wia - good luck to you, too!
  5. 3/16 here. Freaking out a little. My birthday is 3/10 so I was secretly hoping it would be that day, but my surgeon only does them on Wednesdays, alas. 308 (330 to start) - looking to lose at least 108lbs (that seems just crazy to type - but it's the potential reality). Good luck everyone!
  6. @@Renkoss - You can do it! It'll fly by. I just had my last visit with the PSYCH on Friday and found out my surgery date today. It all feels like a blur. Congrats on getting this far. @@tglastchance - Mine is 3/16. I'm gonna be on pins and needles until then!
  7. AHHH! I just found out today that my surgery date is March 16th. 3 weeks from tomorrow. It all seems so fast. I just started this process with an all day appointment at Mayo Clinic in November, and the time has FLOWN by. I had my last visit with the psychologist on Friday and she signed off/discharged me then. I got the call from the surgical scheduler today and, I'm not even going to lie, started freaking out a little (okay, a lot). Anyone else with March dates? My birthday is March 10th, so I can't think of a better way to usher in 33 than a new me. I'm starting to get more nervous, but I keep telling myself that it's all for the better. One preop visit, one lab visit, one bypass diet visit and then surgery. I don't know if anyone else has gone to Mayo Clinic, but they do not mess around. I've had to keep a significant food log (with pre and post-meal feelings) since November, had to cut out any alcohol and most caffeine and had to significantly increase exercise in order to be discharged. Sorry, I'm kinda freaking out here. All of the forums here have been a massive help thus far, and I hope to post/contribute more as I go through the process. WHEEE!
  8. @jessicazi Hi! He did actually say that normally surgeons would like a patient OFF of prednisone prior to the surgery, but he normally suggests bumping UP the prednisone prior to surgery for bad asthmatics, to prevent any sort of breathing complication during the surgery. He said the potential for it causing any slow-down with healing is quite minimal, particularly for someone that's been on it for awhile. But that will most certainly be a conversation between him and the surgeon (and anesthesiologist, possibly), I'm sure. And yeah, I'm on the whole shebang. Ventolin inhaler, Albuterol nebs, Symbicort, Spiriva, Singulair, Prednisone, plus Metformin for the DM II and a ton of Vitamins. My appt with the surgeon had to be moved a week to this coming Saturday, so I'm nervous/excited/itching to see what the plan will be.
  9. @@Djmohr Howdy! Thank you so much for the words of encouragement! I'm looking forward to the journey ahead. Seeing everyone's struggles and triumphs on here is very helpful and encouraging.
  10. Hi all. I'm new to these parts! I've now gone through the information sessions and met with my pulmonologist and will be having my surgical consultation this week. I'm just polling to see if anyone here is/was in the same boat. I'm a severe asthmatic, currently fluctuating between 325-330lbs and have not been under 265/270lbs (I'm 5' 9") in probably 8 years. I have been on prednisone for about a year and a half due to breathing issues. I'm also fairly newly (about 6mos) diagnosed diabetic (DM Type II) and have high blood pressure (yay co-morbidities). My pulmonologist is very much on board with me having the surgery (it makes sense - less weight, less struggle breathing) and mentioned numerous studies touting the benefits of WLS on people in my condition. I'm just curious to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation, or, if you've suffered from breathing issues, if you've seen any resolution. I've seen mention of concerns for people that are steroid dependent (we are VERY slowly tapering my dosage), but my pulmonologist does not feel this would be an issue in my case. We'll see what my surgeon says, of course. I'm nervous about this, but I have an incredible support system (work for a major, well-respected hospital, which helps), have the support of my partner and also my mother, who had Roux-en-Y about 14 years ago (and has kept about 70% of the weight off in that time). Hoping to be a success story!
