About Me

  • Biography
I had lapband in Dec 07, lost 50 lbs by Sept 09. Then had terrible pain, throwing up, acid reflux. I had strictures in my stomach. I had a procedure done to expand my stomach. Ever since I've had no restriction, gained all weight back.

I had surgery Dec 2007.  Finally was able to get enough of a fill that restricted my eating by April 2008.  By August 2009 I had lost 50 lbs.  Then in Sept 2009 I started having acid reflux, throwing up while asleep, stomach pain.  It was determined that I had strictures of the stomach.  They took all the fluid out of my band but the stomach stayed restricted.  I had a procedure done where they basically put a balloon down your throat, then blow it up in the stomach.  It stretched my stomach out and that fixed the GERD problems temporarily.  However, ever since I've not felt any restriction at all.  Before even without fluid I felt restricted.  I've had fluid put in, I've had fluid put in, again and again.  I've gained back all but 10 lbs of the original weight loss. Finally in May 2010 the doctor said he wanted to see how much fluid was in the band.  There was suppose to be 14cc in the band.  He only withdrew 4cc and it was discolored.  I'm waiting to see the same doctor who did the balloon procedure.  It's been so frustrating.  I've been sick almost the entire time I've had the band.  I never had acid reflux before, I have it quite often now.  I have stomach pain all the time.  I'm disappointed in myself and in the procedure.Update: 6/19/10.  I had another EGD done and there are no erosions or problems in my stomach due to the lapband.  Then I had a flurospcopy fill with a dye and it was determined that my tubing had a leak and the port was defective.  Insurance approved the fix and I'm going in Monday 6/21/10 and having my port replaced along with new tubing.  I've had such abdominal pain in the last year they're going to remove my gall bladder as well.  I'm having problems deciding where to have the port located.  I originally had it on my left side but when I'd lost all that weight the first time it stuck out like some alien growth.  It was ugly.  I need to be able to do 30+ sit-ups without pain and restriction as I'm in the military and have to complete my physical testing.  Others I've talked to say they have horrible abdominal pain while doing sit-ups and couldn't do 30+ because of it.  I guess I'll live with the port on my side just to keep my job but I'd prefer more favorable options if anyone has any??
