I am a 21 year old student at The Ohio State University, and I am using my break between my Junior and Senior year of college to get and recover from a sleeve gastrectomy. I can't remember a time since I was 7 that I wasn't overweight, and I have been going to more nutritionists, Weight Watchers meetings, fitness gurus, and specialists than I can count since I was 11. Every year since puberty, I have put on an additional 20 or 30 pounds. About two years ago, my parents started encouraging me to get surgery, and I thought it was absurd because it seemed like such a drastic measure at 19. Lo and behold, only two years later, I came to terms with the fact that surgery is the safest, most effective way that I could have a chance at being at a healthy weight since I was 7 years old. I just had my surgery on July 1, 2015, and I joined this website to be able to talk to others about what to expect moving forward, and to share stories. Additionally, I would love to talk to people around my age who have already had any type of bariatric surgery, because the only people I currently know who have are all 15+ years older than me.
