I keep seeing all people talking about all kinds of tests before surgery? What kind of test? And is there a lot of blood work?

I have been looking into the gastric sleeve surgery. After I have my first appointment with my doctor how long does it normal take to have surgery? Is the surgery worth it? The pain? The liquid diet?
