The day I made the decision to go to the doctors and investigate the gastric band probably saved my life. My doctor knew little about the procedure so I told him what I knew, this was June 2005, July 2005 I had consultation with the surgeon, October 2005 I had the op, in on a thursday out friday morning. I had several last suppers, the last chinese, the last steak, the last bbq, you get the picture. I went in at over 18 stone. This was my first ever operation at the age of 49, I had never been in hospital, had no medical history, nothing wrong I was just fat. Tried all the usual diets. I dont feel bad about cheating and having surgery, as it was the best thing that could have happened.

Would I do it again given the same set of circumstances, you bet, and would urge anyone who is thinking of the band and has the opportunity, its a win win.

6 years on and I live with my band its part of me. Several of my friends who have seen me reduce my weight have since had the op and again its been succesfull.

Dont get me wrong, its been a learning curve and there are difficult times even now, but i know how to handle it.

Good luck to you all xx
