    Questions for Alcohol Drinkers ONLY!

I just want to share my personal AL knowledge and experiences. Please, hear all of my message. I had my VSG on 11/30/15. My surgeon specifically made me promise never to drink again. Well, except champagne toast at my upcoming wedding. Both of my parents and my younger sister had the gastric bypass almost 15 years ago. My dad rarely drank before, but is now an alcoholic (struggling with recovery). My sister first had prescription pain medication addiction. Once she got that addiction under control, she began drinking. She is currently in an alcohol recovery program. Of course everyone is different. Not everyone that drinks becomes an alcoholic, but statistics DO show an increased risk post weight loss surgeries. I guess I just don't understand choosing such a drastic procedure to improve quality of life, then knowingly possibly choosing a life of addiction.
  2. I just had VSG surgery on Monday (4 days ago). I was told to expect burping and to be passing gas while in the hospital. However, it seems that I'm burping even MORE now that I'm home. I'm on a liquid diet, with a target of 40 grams of Protein daily. But, am burping almost every 10-15 minutes. Have other experience this? I just am curious if it's 'normal' or something I need to contact my surgeon about.

    Burping/belching post-op?

Thanks for the quick response! My surgeon specifically said no drinking from a straw. I have been taking 'baby sips' but will try to take smaller ones and hope it helps. Thanks!!!

    Pre op diet...

I understand! I have not started it yet, but my doctor is requiring 2 weeks on liquids and only raw veggies, no dressing. I am supposed to have 4 protein drinks a day. I am dreading it, but know it's necessary for a safer surgery. Let me know if you have any words of wisdom!

    Submitting info to insurance

Good Luck!!! I am in a similar place. I saw my surgeon on Thursday and he said the office would send it to my insurance for approval on Friday. I plan on calling my insurance tomorrow (Wednesday) to check on the status. I just REALLY prefer not to have it sitting on someone's desk for a week waiting for approval. I agree that it's your health. I say be proactive and follow-up with the coordinator to make sure she DID make the call and receive it. Honestly, being a 'squeaky wheel' is the best way to get things accomplished... as long as it's in a polite manner.
