I considered weight loss surgery several years ago, but there were too many insurance hurdles at that time. I am glad that I did not have it done back then, because the sleeve was not available at that time. A year ago, I had lost 29 lbs through weight watchers, but after accepting a new job and moving to a new location I was not able to find a convenient meeting. By June I had gained back about 8 lbs (in 6 months). I am diabetic and my Blood sugar levels were not good so I started on Lantis. Lantis caused me to gain 20 lbs in 2 months. (I was NOT over eating and I limit my carbs). This was unacceptable to me. I did my own research on insulin and found out that Levemir did not cause as great a weight gain as Lantis so I talked to my Dr and he switched me to Levemir. Although I stopped gaining weight, I could not lose weight even though I was eating even less. At that point, I decided to pursue weight loss surgery. For me, it was insulin vs weight loss surgery, and again, for me I did not see that there really was a choice. My reason for choosing to have weight loss surgery was to get off of insulin, weight loss is a positive "side effect".

I'm not sure how I found BariatricPal.  Since surgery, I have not suffered from nausea or indigestion, but I expected to be able to eat more than I can at this point. I was starting to believe that what I was experiencing was "abnormal". I found information either on this forum or on a blog, that other people were experiencing the same thing. At least, I knew that I was not alone. They also said this would improve with time.

At the current time. I can eat a 5 oz container of greek yogurt, or a 4 oz serving of applesauce. I can eat a whole egg now which I could not do 2 weeks ago. What I have found is that I have trouble eating real food that is protein based. Even if I put chicken in the food processor, I can only eat about 3 bites of it. If I eat 5 bites, I am almost certain to be in pain. If not in pain, I will be uncomfortable. Although I can eat a whole egg, I will be uncomfortable afterwards. I can eat half of an Atkins protein bar, but I can not eat a piece of chicken that size. It does not make since.
