  1. Hi everyone! So, I'm getting closer and closer to the point where I get on a plane to fly to Mississauga for my lapband surgery. I'll be spending my milestone 30th birthday on liquids! But hey, it will all be worth it in the end. Anyway, the point of this post is I'm actually looking for people who may lifebe having the surgery done soon or who have recently had it done. I think it would be nice to have some "Buddies", so to speak. I'm nervous as can be and this will be the biggest and hardest thing I've had to do thus far in my life. I'll be starting my pre-op diet on April 9th and my surgery is scheduled for April 29th. I know it's just under a month and a half away, but time really goes by fast. If you're looking for sort of the same thing, or just someone to bounce ideas and tips off of, then let me know. It would be really nice to have some people to turn to. xo

    Lap-Band Buddies!

Hi all, I thought I would update everyone and let you all know that yesterday, I had my lap-band surgery at The Plastic Surgery Centre (as part of the SmartShape Weightloss Centre) in Mississauga, Ontario. My Doctor was Dr. Chris Cobourn and he did an amazing job. All of the stuff were very kind, sweet, understanding and very relaxing which is what I needed because I was so nervous. I came out of the anaesthesia farely quickly and wasn't overly groggy. When I awoke after a nap yesterday, I was in a lot of pain because all of the pain meds had worn off, but once I got some more into me, I was good. Since then, I haven't been in much pain. I of course am very tender and stiff, but that's to be expected. I have no bruising, no shoulder pain and have been able to sleep decently. Not the best, but decently. I feel that I will be able to sleep better once I get back to the comfort of my home and my bed tomorrow. I'm on my clear liquid diet now, so I'm mainly just drinking Water and chicken broth. And the broth is amazing after so many weeks of Protein shakes and veggies. Tomorrow, I can start on my full liquid diet, so I'm excited to get some nice creamed Soup and even go back to my Protein Shakes. I'll be on the full liquid diet for a week and then I'll be on pureed foods, which will be nice seeing as my birthday is on May 9th. I'll have a little bit more variety. I thought I would give everyone a head's up as to how things are going for me, and if you have any questions, let me know! Xo Rachel

    Lap-Band Buddies!

If any of you guys have pinterest, I have found it so useful for information about the lap-band and even more useful for post surgery recipes and lots of goodies. I would recommend going there if you need some food inspiration. =)

    Lap-Band Buddies!

@@kwcrnp How has the pain been for you? Any tightness in the stomach or difficulties with bending over? As for the weight tracker, if you go to the top right hand side of the page near where you log out, you will see where it says "Hello kwcrnp" and there will be a little wheel there. Click on the wheel, and go to the options that it has. From there, you will see "my ticker" on the left hand side. Go there, and you can customize a ticker and have the option to add it to your signature. =)

    Lap-Band Buddies!

Hi everyone, I thought I would check in. I'm deep into my pre-op diet and have lost 14lbs so far which is amazing. To say that the pre-op diet is easy, would be a lie. For me, I've found that it's been hard in many different ways... especially emotionally, because I've found that I've been an emotional eater. It really tests your willpower, but it does go to show what you accomplish when you really try. I just had my final checkup with my doctor yesterday to make sure my blood pressure and everything was still good and everything is exactly where it should be. My surgery is on the 29th, the date is creeping closer and I'm getting nervous. That being said, does anyone have any suggestions for what they plan on bringing with them to their surgery / things they have bought for the "recovery" days to follow afterwards? Hope everything is good and @@kwcrnp, glad to hear that your surgery went well! PS; does anyone know I get one of those weight tracker things that some people have at the bottom of their posts?

    Lap-Band Buddies!

I actually just double checked to see if I could have anything else other than the low glycemic vegetables, smartshape shakes and water............... and I can't. I think it's probably better this way, anyway. Besides, 250 calories worth of vegetables is actually quite a bit. Though I do hope that the hunger goes away after a few days because today, I am pretty hungry.

    Lap-Band Buddies!

I should also mention guys that I just started my pre-op diet today. Mine is extended because of my BMI and FLS (Fatty liver syndrome) so it's twenty days of nothing but three shakes from minogue medical a day and a max of 250 calories a day of low glycemic veggies. Surprisingly and to my pleasure, the shake actually tastes better than most meal replacement/protein shakes that I've ever had and anyone can get these from the Minogue Medical website. I've only tried the vanilla, but so far so good in that area. If anyone has any good vegetable recipes, feel free to share. I'd love to be able to eat my vegetables in different ways so I don't get too sick of them. Hope everyone is doing good!

    Lap-Band Buddies!

Trutay, That was me that said I'm getting my surgery done in Mississauga. I fly in on April 28th and my surgery is on the 29th. I decided to go with SmartShape for my surgery. It's nice to find another Canadian on here. =)
  9. So I start my pre-op diet tomorrow and it's an extended pre-op diet because I have such a high BMI and fatty liver syndrome. So it's twenty days of these specially formulated Protein shakes from Minogue Medical, and a maximum of 250 calories worth of low glycemic vegetables a day. Up until this point, I have spent so much time doing research, picking up ideas on foods to make after my surgery and getting myself as familiar as I can with everything, but now that I'm the day before my pre-op diet, I'm starting to think... "this is actually happening" and I'm getting exceptionally nervous. I know this pre-op diet is going to be really hard, but I also know that I can do it. It's just now I realize that I'm less than three weeks away from getting on a plane and flying to Mississauga, where I'll have my surgery and it's making me incredibly anxious. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to deal with pre-op nerves? Maybe any tips on how to stay focused and not "cheat" while on the pre-op diet? Any help would be great. Thanks, Rachel

    Lap-Band Buddies!

What do all of your pre-op diets consist of? Mine consists of three protein shakes (smartshape shakes from minogue medical) and a maximum of 250 calories a day of low glycemic vegetables.. and water. I have to read my guidelines a little closer, but I think I might be able to put some sugarfree torani syrup in my protein shakes to make them taste a bit better.
  11. Hi everyone, This is my first post here and I am pre-op for lap-band. Though my surgery isn't scheduled for another few months (April 30th 2015), I still wanted to come here to fill my head even more than what I already have. I know that I need to be prepared and I want to be prepared. I have noticed a few people who have posted from Canada and I was curious as to if anyone has any personal insight on Dr. Christopher Cobourn at the Smartshape Weightloss Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. I have to travel there from Alberta in order to get the procedure, due to my BMI being as high as it is. I have read some reviews on him, and spoken with him personally and he seems incredibly knowledgable, supportive, positive and reassuring. Has anyone had any encounters with Dr. Chris Cobourn or had him as their surgeon? Thanks!

    Dr. Christopher Cobourn

@@Angelant76 Good luck with your surgery! I'm sure everything will go swimmingly and make sure you come back here to tell me all about it and how it went. I don't see Dr Cobourn for a few months but it's still great to hear other people's experiences!
