I have been using the gummies for 5 months... I was never told not to. I do keep them in my mouth until there is literally nothing left.

I guess part of the problem is that all my surgeon ever says is... Well, at least you're going the right direction. Makes me feel like I should be doing a lot better

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse but it seems like I am NOT losing as much as I should be. I had my surgery December 31st so I am not quite at the 5 month mark. I have lost 59 pounds, my blood pressure is perfect, my blood sugars R improving and I am using less insulin but I still can only do minimal exercise and physical therapy. I see a lot of people who have lost twice as much in the same amount of time. I know everyone is different but I have to wonder what I could be doing to improve things. I get my protein and my water in everyday. I try to fill in with vegetable. I have no pasta, rice, bread, etc. I have read that women in their fifties have slower metabolism... Do others face this same problem? Is there anything that can be done, short of intense exercise to boost metabolism ?

I am at four and a half months. this community has been the greatest tool I have next to my sleeve. you are ahead of me. I was still in the hospital on day 2. I would have much rather been at home. I think the greatest lesson I have learned here is that everyone has a different journey. I hope yours give see you great satisfaction. I look forward to sharing the journey with you.

You are the first person that I have seen comment on having A thyroid condition. I had not even thought to add that to the equation. I too, AM over 50, postmenopausal, and have hypothyroidism. On top of that, I am unable to even walk short distances for exercise while in physical therapy for my back. I guess I should consider myself lucky that I have lost 50 plus pounds in 4 months. I had been feeling pretty discouraged, and my surgeon is not a big cheerleader, unfortunately. I appreciate you adding this other element which helps me understand my slow loss.

I am constantly telling my husband that I am a cheap date. I either share his meal or he gets all of the side dishes from mine and whatever I order usually amounts to about three or four meals for me.

I am 4 months out and have enjoyed my favorite restaurant meals... Or should I say, my portion of my husband's meals. lol. I find that I have no desire for carbs. We went to Longhorns for my grandsons baptism and there was a time when I devoured every piece of their bread I could get my hands on. It wasn't even a temptation.

Keeping your blood sugar under control when you are stressed is not easy. Try not to get too discouraged and work with your doctors to find the right meds. I am so sorry about your brother. Hang in there and know that you have friends here.
  10. I am 5 feet 7 inches. The day I left the hospital I weighed 259 pounds. Tomorrow will be exactly 3 months and I am down 40 pounds. My surgeon had a resident talk to me as well as the hospital nutritionist. The resident said I should aim for 65 grams of protein and calories around 600 to 700. I have experienced a couple of stalls and from reading here realize that is normal. I get more than necessary fluids. As of now, I still need to lose almost 80 pounds. I cannot exercise at this point so diet is my only resource. In doing a lot of research, I wonder if my calories and protein are too low. Is there anyone whose stats are similar to mine who can give me some ideas? I can eat anything... Fish, chicken, lean beef... Except hamburger. That stuff grosses me out! lol. I have gotten really creative with protein powder and seldom miss carbs. Even the couple of times I have cheated I have made sure to keep everything else in check. So, can anyone figure out what I'm doing wrong???

    Lots of frustration!

today I am beginning to feel like the little engine who could... I think I can I think I can I think I can I think I can... I can I know I can. lol my husband keeps telling me that I am my own worst enemy. I have a hard time managing my expectations. I have been taking my measurements every few weeks and getting out my summer clothes has been a joy being able to wear clothes I have packed away for years. but that darn scale... Why won't it move???I want it all yesterday. this site and all of you wonderful people are such and inspiration and it is like having my own personal cheering section. I hope, someday, to be able to pay it forward

    Lots of frustration!

thank you!thank you! I am going to try increasing my protein for the next week and see what that does. I am unable to walk at this point because of back and nerve problems. I see a specialist in a couple of weeks for those issues.I found some wrist and ankle weights which I am going to start wearing around the house to see if that at least helps me tone a little bit. I guess anything is better than nothing.

    Lots of frustration!

Oh, I generally lose 30 to 40 pounds every summer when I can spend every waking moment in the pool. lol. it's keeping it off that's the problem. I read about so many people losing so much more and it is discouraging even though intellectually I know everyone is different. thank you for your words of encouragement.

just thought of something else... I love constant comment tea by Bigelow and I switched to decaf after my sleeve... Anyway sipping warm has always helped when I feel nauseous.

They immediately gave me drugs for nausia at the hospital. I would contact your surgeon and have him write you a prescription. for me the nausia passed in about 3 days. Also, try sucking on ice chips. When I first started drinking protein shakes I had to pour them over crushed ice and use a spoon... Took me about 3 hours to get down one shake. lol
  16. I had my surgery New Years Eve and have lost 35 pounds. need about another 75 to 80. Due to severe back problems I have not been able to exercise, even walking is not an option. The last few days I have wanted to eat anything that won't eat me. & I have eaten a lot of things I shouldn't. or rather I have been eating too much. Not a lot at one time. but, I know my head is in the wrong place. I don't know the protocol as far as exchanging phone numbers and calling or texting. it's like, I feel like I need an AA sponsor.
  17. I think it is safe to say that none of us get here by choice. certainly by making bad choices but not with the goal of becoming overweight with the health problems and complications. I think the best thing for me is finding this site and knowing that not only am I not alone in this, but that there really is a way out of the nightmare.I wish that I had made this decision soonerbut maybe I wasn't ready. for the most part I am NOT struggling too hard... Yet. lol! I have to look at this, not just one day at a time, one meal at a time. to be a unit each time I make it through A fay successfully it makes the next day that much easier. I think my biggest problems is being impatient. I want to see huge results overnight. Sigh...
  18. it really helps to know other people have this same struggle. I know this will be a lifelong issue for me. after my parents divorced when I was to one of my grandmothers, who had weight problems herself, thought the best way to show love was with food... And not healthy food. I can remember her packing the backseat of the car with enough food for a week for a three hour drive. 1 pound Hershey bars for a 5 year old... You get the drift. then this same grandmother would berate me as a teenager for being 10 pounds overweight. thus began my lifelong issue with food, Body Issue, self esteem, etc. I actually didn't blend to my highest of 289 pinsI married my second husband who treated me with love and respect. but shortly after I developed serious health issues and used food, once again, for comfort.
  19. Thanks! I'm back on track after a one-day relapse. my husband sat and ate wheat tbins yesterday and they didn't even look good I am keeping the house stocked with all of the proteins you mentioned. I don't know if I will ever truly get over my carb addiction but I am learning to manage it. I had been craving toast so I took half of a piece of garlic and herb flatbread, divided that in half and toasted it.it was amazing with my poached eggs. I still got the feeling and a ton of flavor. so I am learning, albeit slowly.
  20. Hey girl! How are you feeling? if you have the same gunk everyone around here has had, it can take forever to get over. hope you're better. Well, you have officially been a bad influence. I had coffee on Saturday and didn't put the coffee maker away, so I had coffee again on Sunday. got up this morning look at the coffee maker and thought... What the heck it hasn't hurt me so far. so now I'm having coffee on Monday. I still love my T but not as much as my coffee. Lol The weather is finally beautiful here. For as long as it lasts. It could snow next week. But I think I am going to change my outdoor weed and other decor. anything to stay busy. The nerve pain in my hips and legs has moved into my right shoulder down to my hand. I am really anxious to see the doctor April 1st. I'm now sure it has nothing to do with my surgery. who knows... Hopefully this doctor can figure it out. I don't see my surgeon again until mid-april. hope he is happy with my weight loss. I wish I had lost more but it is what it is.

Woohoo! My past was drastically different from everyone else's. From my first appointment with the surgeon until my surgery was 3 weeks. No prep. In some ways, it was easy because I didn't have time to fret. But I had to do an enormous amount of research on my own. I knew more about it then the hospital dietitian. But almost 3 months out, I am doing fine. I think, other than following all of the Dietary issues, the best advice I have received is to remember that everyone is different and will lose the weight at a different pace. As tempting as it is, try not to compare yourself or your progress with other people. As long as you listen to your sleeve, you will do just fine. Good luck!
  22. I hope she is much better. We are taking the kids to a really fun sports bar / restaurant to watch the game. I am NOT a huge sports fanatic except when it comes to Kansas basketball. Don't worry, I don't expect you to respond quickly. This is supposed to be good for us both, not a drudge.???? I learned a valuable lesson last night. it is possible to overeat. we were watching TV and I got a bowl, A small bowl, of beef jerky and almonds which I intended to share with my husband. Over the course of a couple of hours, I ate the whole thing. When I got up this morning the scale said I was up two pounds which I am sure is from all of the salt. I am NOT discouraged. I just know now that there are still new lessons to learn.???????????????????? and I am a notoriously slow learner. Have you guys been hit by all of this horrible weather on the East Coast? we haven't had nearly as much snow as normal. we even had a couple of days in the seventies and eighties. Unfortunately it is now back down in the forties and fifties and gloomy. I want some warmth and sunshine so I can get out and work in the yard. Did I tell you I figured out a way to sleep on my back that has relieve the pain? I have never been able to sleep on my back but I am doing okay with it. I'm not sure when adam and Ethan are coming. Adam is receiving a big promotion on Friday so it may be a week or two. I hope they will bring my grandpuppy Kye. We are such animal nuts.????????. We are planning a vacation in October to North Carolina. my husband is a real homeboddy and does not enjoy flying so we don't do a alot of long distance vacations. Usually I go visit the kids fairly often and we take a real vacation every couple of years. Where do you usually go? I guess I have carried on enough for now. I really hope you get to feeling better soon. Take care
  23. I really should use my notebook instead of my phone, but it's so much easier just to reach over and grab my phone☎☎☎ So, how would you feel about continuing this with email? my email address is sharpita@hotmail.com As for my hair... No one who sees my picture believes it is me. that has been fun. I have been blonde many times but have not been this short since my freshman year of college. So many people around here have been so so sick. my one daughter in law who is a nurse had bronchitis pneumonia and influenza B all at the same time. she is terrible about taking care of herself. I am going over tomorrow to watch the ku game
