  1. I am about 4 months post op and was doing great. Now I have developed shingles on the left side of my face and I have several blisters on my lips, gums, and tongue. So far I have had a couple of premier Protein shakes and some creamy chicken Soup. I drank both with a straw because the bottles hurt my lips. Before surgery, I would have pretty much lived on ice cream and mashed potatoes and the like until it no longer hurt to eat. All of my mushy comfort foods are full of carbs! I don't even want to try my chewable Vitamins, which are overly tart to me even when my mouth isn't in pain. I have some capsules, but they make me nauseous. Any advice? I don't even want to change out of my pajamas, much less go to the gym. I am pretty miserable.

  6. What are your favorite frozen, canned, shelf stable, stick it in your suitcase, leave it in your car, pop it in the microwave for 1 minute between the PTA meeting and swimming lessons foods? I know convenience foods got me here in the first place, but I still have to work with the same schedule I had before. I am on soft foods now, but I will welcome suggestions for any type of food.

    2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

https://youtu.be/Bicti4fGM84 is a video of a leak test. You can see how quickly the liquid moves through.

    2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

I drank sips of some sort of radioactive liquid and I watched a screen that showed an xray view of my stomach. The liquid went in, pooled for a second in my stomach, and then moved on through. It doesn't sit there until it gets broken dowN like solid food does.

Did you watch the leak test? Liquids pretty much pass right through you. You will feel the tightness when you start eating more solid food. Being able to finish more of a mostly liquid food is expected.

    2 Tablespoons of Food. Really?

I had my 2 week followup and wasn't having any problems, so the doc OKed me for soft foods and said to just take it slow. I haven't had trouble with anything I've tried, but I am being careful with texture. I know every doctor is different. Some people are on clears for 2 weeks, some people are on soft foods from day 2. If you want something spicy, try some Mr. and Mrs. T's bloody mary mix. It hit the spot for me when I was on liquids and was sick of sweet stuff.

    What to scramble eggs in?

I use a smidge of butter and I take good care of the finish on my nonstick pans.

listen to your doctor, but I can finish a container of greek yogurt at 2.5 weeks out. Take small bites and give enough time for the bite to be in your stomach before you take another bite. If you feel any discomfort, stop. It seems that I am able to eat a little more with each day. I finished 3 oz of broiled fish and a teaspoon of hummus today. I wouldn't have been able to eat half of that a week ago. Last night I had a scrambled egg and a tablespoon of guacamole. A few days ago, I couldn't eat more than half an egg.
  13. My mom stayed with us for almost 2 weeks and my youngest is 7. You won't be able to drive while on the good painkillers (about a week for me) and you won't be able to lift your 7 month old for a couple of weeks. If your 10 year old will be around when you need to lift the baby and you don't need to drive anyone anywhere for a while, you should be OK. Do you have anyone else who could stay with you?
  14. I got sleeved on Wednesday and am on Clear liquids until tomorrow. Yesterday, all I could manage to get down was maybe 32 oz of Water, a few bites of Jello, and one sip of Isopure. I am having an easier time with the water this morning (probably due to the fact that I was finally able to pass a lot of gas) but the thought of drinking more isopure or similar is horrible to me. I know it will be easier when I can have full liquids tomorrow. How important is Protein this early in the game? Do I need to choke down the isopure or can I wait until tomorrow to start pushing the protein when I have more options, like my delicious premier Protein shakes? In the hospital, I had some hot tea with beneprotein in it. it was basically meat flavored tea and i don't know how i managed to drink it. the memory of it is making me turn green. Thoughts?

    Ugh!

I'm also 6 days out and today was the first day that i didn't feel like total crap. It will get better.

    Hungry!

I was coming here to say this exact same thing. I was sleeved on 2/25 and i seriously want to eat everything in sight. i was out shopping with my mom today and she had a hot dog for lunch and i literally wanted to lick the mustard off of the bun. We came home and i had some strained soup and a low carb fudge bar type thing and a sugar free jello. I seriously feel like i could eat a horse right now. I really hope i start getting that full feeling when i am on solids finally. I am up to 60g protein a day already. It seems like lots of people still can't get in much protein this early on. It's making me worry that the sleeve won't do its part.

    Still insulin dependent?!

My husband is a type 1 diabetic and whenever he is sick, his numbers shoot way up. It could just be your liver kicking out more glucose in response to the surgery.

    3 days out - protein?

The first couple of days were rough, but I am feeling better today. If I put a little pressure on the big incision, it makes it a lot easier to move around. I was even able to sleep on my stomach some this morning. I wandered around Target for an hour or so yesterday and it was a bit much, but I was able to pass a ton of gas afterwards and I am a lot more comfortable today. I am going to try to get out of the house again today.

    Whole pills

I got sleeved on Wednesday and they had me swallow a small pill on Thursday afternoon after my leak test. It's now Friday and I am taking prilosec, tramadol, and Lexapro in pill form. They are all small tablets, smaller than my pinky fingernail.
  21. i just finished a delicious premier Protein chocolate drink. last night, i added some torani's sugar free salted caramel syrup to my shake and it was fantastic. i haven't tried any other brands because i liked Premier Protein so much. i haven't even tried the flavors other than chocolate, though i might now that i know i can get a 4 pack at walgreens.
  22. I was down another 3 lbs at my visit today, for a total loss of 19 lbs since my first visit with the surgeon on Nov. 17. She wants me to get my BMI under 50 for the surgery, but she says she's confident that I can do it. Hubby and I are sneaking off to Vegas for Valentine's Day weekend. I plan to be fairly good and continuing to avoid bread and Pasta and focus on lean Proteins, but I will be having adult beverages and not skipping dessert. As long as I stick to the plan before and after, I should be good. I will have 9 days of preop diet after the trip. Her preop diet is less than 30g carbs, at least 70g Protein, and fats in moderation. Clear liquids the day before the surgery. She uses the Da Vinci robot. The plan is for outpatient surgery with 23 hours of observation, so I will be spending the night but it's technically outpatient. I reacted badly to a pain medication after my last round of lithotripsy, but I don't rememeber what it is. I have a call in to my urologist to find out. I know I'm allergic to codeine, so finding a pain med could be tricky. I know I've taken hydrocodone a few times and I am hoping that it's not the one I reacted to. So excited!
  23. I have told close friends and family and colleagues who I will need support from. I plan to tell anyone who asks, but I won't just bring it up out of the blue.
