  1. Today marks my 23rd day post op. All has been well so far, trying to take as much fluids and nutrients as I can. Question, the are under my biggest incision, to the left of my torso, hurts sometimes. Its mild and I feel it mostly when I lie on my left side or sneeze. Is this normal? I'm getting paranoid thinking they might have forgot something there. Lol.
  2. 26 days post op.. still trying to adapt.

It takes time. Hang in there.

  3. It's been 8 days since I had my surgery. I've been focusing on recovery and trying to get in all my liquids. Incisions hurt but get better everyday. It's easier to move but my only issues are with sitting up and standing up or lying down. A little intestine rumble, but I've read that's natural. Feeling good everyday. Now for the venting part: In my part of the world, we have to be on a clear/fullish liquid diet for 10 days. My follow up with my surgeon is Feb 3rd. Head hunger has started to kick in. It sucks. Big time. I am craving the weirdest of things. I am not hungry just cravings. Every morning I wake up and I add a food I'm craving to a list I keep. Kind of like to get it out of my system. I miss chewing. Anything. I miss eating meat. But I can wait! Is it okay to have a sugar free stick of gum or a lollipop? I need to chew something y'know? I know it's only a matter of time and I'm trying my best to stay strong. I will stay strong, and I just needed to let it out over here and vent. Thanks guys!
  4. Head hunger and cravings suck, big time.

  9. I have been overweight all my life. At aged 26, I know so many people (younger siblings included) who have had the gastric sleeve surgery and went on to live normally. Not only am I morbdily obese but I have also reached a weight where if I try to exercise, I injure myself. In addition to the fact that my back hurts, my knee hurts, and I am borderline diabetic and prone to cholestrol problems. I have tried countless times to lose weight and it works! ...Until I gain it all back again and then some. Certain seats don't fit anymore, forget about airplane seats. Haven't been shopping for years because I'm in denial about it. I know the sleeve is a tool, I am looking forward to start living a healthier lifestyle.

  11. Hey guys! So I've been considering lapband surgery and actually scheduled my surgery for January 22nd, 2015! However, after a couple of conversations with many, many people, I am now starting to consider the Gastric Sleeve surgery. In addition to my three brothers, I know about a dozen or so of people who have personally had the gastric sleeve. The only banded person I know recommended the sleeve too. I was worried about malnutrition but after seeing many real life success stories, I started considering it. Today is my doctors appointment, my last consultaion to finally decide whether its the band or sleeve. In terms of living, in the long run, the gastric sleeve is much easier. No food getting stuck. You can within a year eat anything but in much much smaller portions. There is no hassle of maintenace (like with the band). Fills cost money. And in my part of the word the gastric sleeve is the most popular procedure. Feeling emotional. Scared, excited and nervous all at the same time. I have a major emotional attachment to food and I know Post Op things are probably going to change. Scared and nervous about that. It's finally becoming real and I know my life is going to change, to the better I hope. Unlike in the States, the pre-op procedure is different in our side of the world. It is self-pay, no pre-op diet and I was instructed to stop eating by 10 PM the night before and admit myself at 7 AM the day of surgery, spend the night and check out the next day. So considering I go with the gastric sleeve procedure... What tips would you have for me? Any medications that could help with the gas and/or bloating? Acid reflux meds? The works! I plan on stocking up on everything I need! What about walking, when was it possible for you to go out and walk normally? I also plan on taking professional BEFORE photos, so that I could share professional AFTER photos too! Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for all your support and encouragement as well as for inspiring me to put myself first and take this bold step (in my book) I'm going to consider January 22nd my second birthday or as I put in the topic, my rebirth!

Who is scared to give up food?

I have the exact same fear as you. I literally now realize it is what was holding me back. For the LONGEST time I researched every thing you can think of about the lap band. I did all the tests and even set a date for surgery, next Thursday 22nd of January 2015 for the lap band. Thankfully, both procedures demand the same tests and I still get to keep my date. Now (less than 24 hours) things have changed. I've decided to go with the sleeve. In terms of realistically living with it, the sleeve unlike the band demands no maintenance. No extra costs. No risks of food getting stuck or avoiding certain foods. I'm still young, I want to live life to the fullest. Regardless of the procedure, I know it's a tool and I know my dependency on food won't matter once I have more stamina, no more knee or back pain, more clothes shopping. I love food. I will still get to enjoy the foods I love. But a bite or two rather than the whole thing. Just enough to be satisfied. I'm looking forward to being able to exercise without hurting myself. I have tried everything I can and exhausted all my options. WLS is the way to go. A year after your surgery, that's when you'll know how you really feel.

Hey guys! So it's official, I just got off the phone with my surgeons office... I scheduled my surgery for January 22nd, 2015! Feeling emotional. Scared, excited and nervous all at the same time. I have a major emotional attachment to food and I know Post Op things are probably going to change. Scared and nervous about that. It is self-pay, no pre-op diet and I was instructed to stop eating by 10 PM the night before and admit myself at 7 AM the day of surgery, spend the night and check out the next day. The band isn't filled until 3 weeks post-op. January 22nd 2015

  17. Hey everyone! First of all, let me start by congratulating you all on your willingness to share your experiences with everyone. My story is a long one but I will try my best to summarize it. I am 26 years old, weighing in at 130 kg. I am the heaviest that I have ever been. My knees are beginning to hurt, attempting any form of mild streneous exercise results in injury and I am pretty sure I am at risk for diseases such as cholesterol and diabetes (it runs in my family). Add the fact that I am now starting to shop at Big & Tall stores and have to start avoiding certain chairs and seats (because they don't fit) Seven years ago I lost a substanital amount of weight, about 35kgs, kept it off for a about a year and a half only to put it back on and then some. Ever since then weightloss has been a constant struggle. That is why I've been considering lapband. Many people close to me and younger than me have had gastric sleeve surgery. I have been researching lapband for four years, even going as a as to schedule a consultation with two different surgeons, so that I can have all my questions answered without the usual "he said/she said." I realize after research that everyone is different. I need that "push" in anyway possible. I believe the lapband is for me. Logically, I should get the surgery. However, there seems to be something that keeps holding me back. It's not fear and its not any financial problems (since I'm self paid). I'm not quite sure what it is. Before deciding on surgery, I've decided to see a therapist, in order to tackle my issues with food (apparently I have a lot of them) and the therapist in turn decided to refer me to a hypnotherapist as well. Recently, the idea of lapband started creeping up again, and here I am online trolling through the different forums and websites researching the lapband. I think I'm sticking with theraphy and hypnotheraphy before getting the surgery. I feel like I want to exhaust all my options before I decide to use the lapband. I know the band is not a magic wand. I know its a tool that will aid me in losing my weight and living my life to the fullest. What do you guys think? Any tips or suggestions that might be useful?

To Band or not to Band?

Thank you everyone for your wonderful replies, it made me feel supported! Special thanks to @@kayzoog, stumbling upon your blog is one of the major factors that helped encourage me to seriously consider surgery. Thank you for sharing your successful journey with us, it helped me (and I'm sure many others) in knowing that it is possible to live a happy and health life with the band. I wish you nothing but health and happiness. I also appreciate this website, it's weird how we can create deep connections and friendships with people we've never met. Thank you everyone for everything x
