Hi Everyone! My name is Kathy Black.
My personality...I'm a fun-loving, joke-making-smart ellic kinda girl. I've been told that my sense of humor is dry - I can make a joke and you don't know if I'm serious or not - more than likely not lol.
I have been suffering from yo-yo dieting since my first divorce in 1998. I went through a severe depression and packed on the pounds. In 2000, I started going to the doctor...diet pills, SugarBusters, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Slim Fast. I did them all. I'd go down 20 pounds and up 30 more.
In March of 2013 I started working at NAL where I had a co-worker that had undergone Lap-Band surgery. She was done nearly 100 pounds in a year's time. I'll be honest, I saw numbers on the scale and that was about it. Our insurance also covered the surgery so that made it even better. So, I started the process. I had a consultation visit and since I had record of all my other "tries" I didn't have to do any special diet for any amount of time. I was able to do the physical, dietician appointment and psych eval all on the same day. About 2 weeks later I received my approval.
I'm 5' 5". My highest weight was 260#, date of surgery was about 250#, and my current weight has been bouncing between 225-230# (that story to follow).
On October 31, 2013, I recieved the Realize Band. Boy, were the first few weeks excruciating. I was starving to death! I even ate a can of chicken and stars soup the DAY after my surgery. I finally got to a "workable" place. By the end of February, 2014, I had lost about 30#. I haven't lost a pound since. In March 2014, I started the fill/unfill process. I should have left well enough alone and just went with what I had in January. I have had nothing but trouble from "Cybil" since March. The doctor I had just wanted to keep filling and unfilling. I guess that would have been okay had I not been almost 2 hours away, but it was getting quite expensive and also a pain trying to make up all that time from work so I didn't lose money or get in trouble for missing so much.
Anyhow, after seeing so many posts on Facebook about how much weight people had lost and so forth, I started to get very upset and discouraged. So, I found another doctor that would take me and Cybil. Unfortunately, he is also 2 hours away. BUT, he did a complete unfill. My records indicated that I had about 8cc in my 10cc band, but he took out 9cc!!! A couple of weeks later he put in 6cc under fluorscope. I've still been pretty hungry between meals and eating more than I should portion wise, and also not making very smart choices sometimes. I go back the first part of December for some more fluid. I hope that will make Cybil and I happy :)
