It's easy to get a hold of Henry or bill. But getting any information back from the doctor is absolutely impossible. Had GB 2 freaking years ago and still haven't been able to get my copies of the medical records so I can seek follow up care. Frustrating is an understatement.

Interesting. My sister and I both had surgery on the same day September 25th, 2015 from dr. Ponce in Tijuana. We were picked up at the airport by a guy named Roberto but they called him big Robert. And we were escorted around town by Juanito. I have emails that support this.

Is there another bariatric pal Mexico company?

I had surgery there 9/25/15 with Dr. Ponce De Leon and have tried a few times to get my records faxed or emailed to me because no surgeon here in the US will follow up with me without them. I talked to someone one the phone, and he said he'd talk to Dr. Ponce, but never got back to me. And then I emailed him to see what was going on and never got a reply.

So, weird thing. Before surgery, I loved meat. Now, if any meat sounds good, I give it a try and then the next time I think about it, it repulses me. Since surgery 6 weeks ago, I've tried bits of burger, chicken, even hot dog(I know it's bad) , and now all of them sound completely disgusting to me. am I weird? I can eat turkey burger no problem, but anything else....yuck. Maybe my body just wants me to convert to vegetarian? I don't even know. lol

So, I had the GB almost a week ago. I've been really trying to get all my fluids in and everything and I feel alright but my tummy is SUPER full. Is this normal? I last took a sip of vitamin water like an hour ago and I still feel full. Is something wrong with my pouch? I'm a worry - wart..

Ashlegal, My insurance denied me, My sister doesn't have coverage. our dad passed away in May this year from obesity related issues, age 58. Mexico is our best option.. There's no way we'd be able to afford it here in the US. We have faith everything will be great and we feel it's time to live rather than just exist.

So back in November of 2014 I posted a thread asking for advice about my father. His insurance wouldn't cover a bariatric surgery he desperately needed. So I talked to him about self pay and the whole nine yards and he still said "I'll talk to my doctor about it. " but never truly did. I lived out of state with my husband and couldn't be there to make sure he did. This whole last year I'd been feeling like we really needed to get this done. .almost as if his life was actually depending on it.. and I tried and tried.. 5/26/15 my father passed away in his sleep. He had hbp, sleep apnea and I think he was an undiagnosed diabetic.. He was my dad..I never ever thought this would happen..atleast not at his age of 58. He was my best friend.....I miss him so much. :, , (. I'm 23 and am on his same path.. 350 pounds with a bmi of 45. My insurance won't cover it. I know that this is necessary. I feel like because my dad wouldn't do it, I NEED TO. what is everyone's opinion and success stories from having it done in Mexico? My sister and I are both really overweight and want to do this together. Thank you.

I have been researching this surgery for myself for about a year now and that is a big reason why I was so excited to tell my dad what could happen for him if he did this. He liked the sounds of it but didn't want to because "I just want to lose weight myself, I'll be embarassed if I do that because I should be able to do this on my own". That was the last time I talked to him about it in our last phone conversation. I have thought long and hard about whether this is right for me, and I think it is. I know I will have to change everything..and I want to.

So, I was living in Arizona and had my 6 months of insurance required nutrition visits. Then we had to move because my husband is serving in the military. I'm just wondering if I'm going to have to start over and if any of you have moved during this process? Thanks!

I'm asking because I have PCOS and am anxious to find out if the RNY will help my case. I'm almost 23 and I'm hoping insurance will give me approval. If any of you have any tips or info, I'd appreciate it very much!

Thank you all for your replies. I don't have a surgery date yet but I'm nervous because every time I go to the NUT I either am the same weight or have gained a pound or two. It's so frustrating because I have my 5th visit on the 11th and I know that in most cases the insurance will not approve you if you don't lose weight during your nutrition 6 month visits. I really need this surgery though. Do you think I'll have issues getting covered if I don't lose weight because of PCOS ?

So, my dad is 430lbs. He recently tried to ask his insurance (United Health Care) if they'd cover the Gastric Bypass. His doctor thinks it's a good idea. My dad has sleep apnea, arthritis, HBP. He needs this surgery.. his knees are bone on bone.. Anyway, he called to see if they would cover it but they said that his plan wont cover any form of weightloss surgery, even if it's medically necessary. what should he do now?

My husband is in the military and we recently started the process of trying to get a gastric bypass for me. I have a BMI of 48 and also have PCOS. My question is what do they require? 6 months of nutrition counseling? I meet with the surgeon for the first time on Friday. Tricare sent me a few things in the mail saying that they will cover the visits to the surgeon and psychologist. i'm just curious on how long this all will take and what I should expect. Any info you have would be appreciated!

I met with the surgeon today! Looks like I will have to continue the nutrition visits for another 5 months and then do 2 weightloss group meetings, 1 pshych evaluation, a sleep study! then i'll know if the insurance approved me. Here's to finally taking a step in the right direction!

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies. Thinnerme2015, My dad lives in Montana and he has UHC through his work. I'm guessing they do have different plans and his doesn't cover WLS. I've tried talking to him about mexico but he's just really skeptical about it. He doesn't have a lot of extra money to spend on more insurance, so i'm just not sure.
