  1. I will be the lone dissenter! LOL. I wouldn't do it at that time, only because I wouldn't want everyone else to "celebrate" Thanksgiving by picking me up from the hospital and then taking care of me. That's just me, though! Even if my family said they didn't mind, I still wouldn't do that to them, because I know how much they do enjoy Thanksgiving.
  2. I'm sure that's how most of us got this way It's a tough realization. I think for your own safety, you should definitely seek out therapy post-surgery ... overeating with a sleeve can be dangerous and painful! *hugs*
  3. That's great your appointment is so soon! Mine is on 11/24 with the bariatric surgeon. It's very exciting to have made the decision, isn't it? Good luck and keep us posted!
  4. I suppose it could sound dramatic LOL. But as an active participant in the pleasures of THC, I'm speaking from first hand experience! Unrelated, but not quite TOTALLY unrelated - one of the things that really had me on the fence about pursuing VSG is an experience that a family friend had two years ago. He was sleeved, and about 10 months out from surgery, he died from internal bleeding caused by overeating. He was also a heavy pot-smoker. In an altered state of mind, we don't make the best decisions, so that is why I'd advise against it, seriously. When I'm high, I can't even tell you the pleasure gained by eating. It's just SO much better! LOL. But if I get approved for this sleeve? I will definitely not be smoking pot after it anymore. Like Lallylocks said, everyone's experience is different, and there really ARE many, many different kinds of weed that bring on different side effects and experiences. But for me, it's not a risk worth taking, so I'd advise anyone I cared about not to do it
  5. Honestly, I would advise against it. To say it gives you the "munchies" sounds all fun and cute when you're not high, but when you are high? It's like a rampant, insatiable obsession with finding something to put in your mouth. And, it's very hard to stop eating when you're high. Please believe me on this. It's just not a good idea.
  6. Of course. I'm in Philadelphia, PA. I should go update my profile stats.
  7. Thanks for your responses, everyone! Trust me, I am well aware that the extra 100 pounds is issue enough. My greatest concern, which I poorly expressed earlier, is that my primary doctor doesn't even KNOW me, so I wasn't sure how well-received my request for a referral for bariatric surgery would be since I have an H M O. But I am happy to say, it went wonderfully. My PCP is a totally awesome person. I've never really gotten to talk to her prior to today. She was very supportive, and extremely down to earth and said I was doing the right thing for myself. Very reassuring! She's giving me a referral to two bariatric surgery groups, and told me to make a consultation appt. with both and see which one I liked better. First one is scheduled for 11/24. It's very exciting to have finally started this process after mulling over it and thinking about it for SO LONG.
  8. Hello, everyone. This is my first post. I've been tossing around the idea of VSG for about a year, and recently I finally found the nerve I needed to make the decision that, yes, I want to pursue this. I'm tired of being tired and achy and MISERABLE carrying around this extra 100lbs. My insurance is an H M O (Keystone Health Plan East). I've called them, and VSG is covered, and not excluded by my husband's employer, so that is a relief. Today is my appointment (in an hour and a half!) with my primary doctor to get this conversation started. I'm a little worried, because while I am morbidly obese by BMI-standards, I'm generally healthy. No high blood pressure, or diabetes, etc. So I rarely go to the doctor. So what I'm saying is, my PCP barely knows me. I've been there maybe twice. So I'm a little nervous that they are going to try to give me a hard time for some reason. I'm hoping it's just my anxiety over everything making me feel that way. I need to get this doctor to report this as a medically necessary surgery, and give me the referral so I can get started on the rest of the pre-qualifications. Wish me luck.
