  1. Did anyone else have their period on the day of surgery? I'm usually right on schedule, and should have it the day of surgery. Were you able to wear a tampon?

Federal BCBS approval when falling under 35 BMI

A girl at my job was approved with Federal BCBS with a BMI under 40 with NO comorbidities. She thought for sure she was going to get denied. Keep the hope!
  3. Go with FEP BCBS Basic. It seems like the standard option is "better" because its more expensive, but you will pay a lot of out pocket. The only thing I have been responsible for is my co-pays $35, and the surgeons fee for my surgery $150.
  4. Hi guys. So I'm getting sleeved on Monday, 11/30. What are some things you guys stocked up on for the weeks right after surgery? I have protein shakes, and water. What other liquids/food should I have on hand for the first 2 weeks or so? Thanks!

    11/30 Sleevers?

@@bpmom24 that's how I feel! The permanence is like uhhh, but I've read, and seen so many success stories. We can do this. It's a lifestyle change for the better.

    Nov 30 15 VSG Surgery

ME! I get my sleeve on the 30th as well. I have a rather modified diet. Protein shakes for breakfast, and lunch with a light dinner, no carbs. I'm going through carb withdrawal with headaches, but i've already lost 4 pounds on this diet. I'm super excited, and nervous!

    Pre-op TMI Question for Ladies

I emailed my surgeons office just to check. I would hope that they wouldn't cancel a surgery over your period! Maybe if I stay anxious about it, it won't come, lol.

    Pre-op TMI Question for Ladies

Thanks ladies! I'll probably bring my own pads then! Those thick hospital ones suck!

    Pre-Op Struggles!

My surgery is the 30th too! I'm on a semi-restricted diet for 7 days. Protein shake for breakfast, and lunch, and a light dinner consisting of a protein, and veggie. Absolutely no carbs. I noticed today that while I am not necessarily hungry (stomach not growling,) I am beginning to get a headache, which is apparently from carb withdrawal. Hang in there! We got this.
  12. My pre-op diet is for 7 days. Breakfast, and Lunch is a protein shake, and a light dinner. My pre-op diet falls in the week of Thanksgiving, and I'm going to eat a portioned plate on that day. It's probably not "light" exactly, but I figure ill go with the turkey, and sweet potatoes.
  13. Dawn- We have the same date! I am so excited, and nervous. My pre-op diet starts on the 23rd
  14. So, my file is completed, and I am awaiting approval from my insurance company. My current BMI Is 41.3, with no comorbidities. My prior year BMI's were in the 39s. Has anyone had an issue getting approved with BMI history under 40?

    Feeling frustrated

I'm going through the same thing right now. Everything was submitted on 10/29, except the psych eval. I have called insurance everyday to see if they've gotten it. I'm really anxious to get an approval as I need to put in for my time I need off. My insurance company has been so helpful with calling the office to try and light the fire under their butts.

Approvals with BMI history under 40?

I called to clarify with my insurance company. My BMI needed to be over 40 in 2 separate, but consecutive years. So 2014 it was, and it is now in 2015. I'm good! Still waiting for approval

Approvals with BMI history under 40?

Thanks for the replies ladies. This year and last year my BMI was over 40. I just mean my "weight history" that gets sent with insurance, 5 years or so? I'm just worried they'll say I haven't been fat long enough!

Approvals with BMI history under 40?

My official weigh ins were always over 40. Just my prior year BMIs were under. Do insurance company's generally just look at just the official supervised weights?

    Best federal employee insurance

I don't think you'll get the full coverage if you don't. Call the customer service number on the back of your card to clarify. It is so much better to go to one. At my surgeons office, everyone is in the same office. The surgeon, dietician, and psychologist. It makes it really nice to have a one stop shop. I drive over an hour to mine.

    First Post! Kinda hesitant...

Hey, I'm 27 too! Just waiting on approval as well. I'm so thankful we have the opportunity to do this at youngish age. I have read that the only regret people have with this is not doing it sooner. I'm hoping for a December surgery

@ Make sure you mention to your doctor that you are planning on having bariatric surgery. You will need a letter of support from them. With our insurance the requirement is BMI over 40 with no comorbidity, or BMI over 35 with at least one. We do not need a referral to specialists, so id go right ahead and schedule an appt at the surgeons office. Make sure you are using a BCBS Center of Excellence, as it is required for maximum insurance benefits. If you aren't sure, google it and you will find a list of them near you.

    Submitting info to insurance

I was submitted last Thursday. I've been calling my insurance company daily, and they're only waiting on my psych clearance. Everyone is in the same office, so I don't know what the hold up is. This wait is killer...
