  1. It looks like Ill be going for my sleeve surgery on September 27th, with Elias Ortiz in Mexico. YIKES. Am scared. Im BMI about 36 and I live in Canada.
  2. I am also thinking about using Elias Ortiz in TJ at the end of September - perhaps 29th if its available. I wasnt impressed by LIghterme's website and if it wasnt for the high recommendations on this forum thread, I dont think I would use Lighterme. I guess I am wondering why the cost of using Elias Ortiz is HALF of some of the other surgeons like Alvarez or Wilhelmy. I am thinking it must be because of a shorter stay in the hospital/clinic and more time in the hotel. Can someone clarify for me how many nights are in the clinic and how many are in the hotel? I am a "low bmi'er" with a BMI of about 36. I perhaps foolishly had a tummy tuck earlier this year before WLS. I never thought I was a candidate for WLS, but I see now that its really what I need, not liposuction! I am going to see my plastic surgeon on monday to see if he thinks there would be any complications for having WLS after TT.
  3. Im in the same boat - 42 years old, BMI 36, I can run 10k without trouble and I cycle a lot. I am 'fit' in that I exercise all the time. I have perfect BP, no co-morbidities at all except I had early menopause (fertility problem). I am SICK of FAILING at losing weight. I am an ambitious professional in my work with a lot of determination, but when it comes to losing weight? Nope I fail all the time. Cant keep it off. I am questioning going for the operation quite a bit. The real truth is I can lose 15-20 lbs at a time and gain it back, over and over again but I will never ever get down to a "normal" BMI range without surgery. I haven't been a single digit pant size since about grade 8. When I told my mom I was considering this I was shocked that she was totally against it. "I just need to be more disciplined about eating". OMG. this is the lady who put me in weight watchers for the first time when i was TEN years old. Clearly, her strategy does not work for me. I am interested in talking to someone of a similar BMI and activity level who has undergone sleeve surgery.
  4. Im not being facetious when I say this - I'm serious. Im considering getting the sleeve, and Im having a hard time imagining how eating will be afterwards. For instance, is it that you just don't think about food? you don't even feel hungry most of the day? How do you deal with big family meals (like christmas or thanksgiving)? What about restaurant eating? Are your favourite foods still favourites or is that all different? Help me understand what to expect! Rachel
  5. I am thinking of scheduling a sleeve operation about 8 weeks before an already planned Caribbean cruise trip which is a week long. Is that too soon post op to do? Where would I be in terms of post op diet (ie still on purees?) cruises are already a pig out frenzy so I wonder if I would get derailed completely. Maybe I should wait until after the cruise? Thoughts?
